Several things probably, but we managed to stay on topic and not quiz Lorne about work.

“Why have the matings changed?” Sitting up, Monroe leaned against the headboard with a considering expression, so lost in thought he completely didn’t see his nearly naked mate. “People haven’t met and moved in with their mates like this in…in generations. Hell, most of my parents’ friends never claimed to be mates.”

Lorne leaned in, quietly interrupting Monroe. “Does that mean you can move into my house already?”

Monroe’s expression finally looked like he was really seeing us, but he didn’t address Lorne’s fascinating takeaway. “Right? I mean, I think my grandparents might’ve mated that fast, but I’d always thought that was because they’d never met until he came over on a trip from Scotland.”

Nodding slowly, I ran a hand over Lorne’s head and tried to get the wiggly monkey to relax before he made me so hard I started wiggling. “Well, I was always told that if you grew up already familiar with your mate, then it was a slower bond, but that might’ve been because dragons always feel the bond stronger than mages.”

Lorne rolled his eyes. “Because we’re closer to our base instincts.”

I had a feeling he’d gotten that line from a mage, so I tried to carefully work around it. “Well, only in the most technical sense. Mages spread our magic thin to cover more different types and dragons concentrate it on just being dragons. It’s only logical that with such concentrated magic the bond would be more…vibrant?”

My word choice had Lorne’s smile coming back along with his wiggles. “Yes, we’re very vibrant.”

I was glad it’d pleased our boy, but I was being honest. From what we knew, mages had taken the magic we’d been blessed with and spread it out over a lot of different skills, but the dragons’ ancestors had just pushed it into being dragons.

No one knew why anymore, but I thought it explained a lot about how we interacted. Mages were generally a petty, jealous fucking bunch, and dragons lived life with the full-speed-ahead mentality. They didn’t half-ass anything.

“That is a delightful understatement.” Monroe’s teasing response got a laugh from Lorne and he scrambled, all knees and elbows, to shift onto his Daddy’s lap. “Good morning, monkey.”

Now sitting and wiggling, Lorne gave him a bashful smile that was completely manufactured. “Good morning, Daddy.”

Chuckling, Monroe kissed his nose. “You look very cute in your panties this morning.”

They were surprisingly innocent looking even though his erection was testing the strength of the fabric.

“Thank you, Daddy.” Running his hand down his chest, Lorne gave his Daddy another sweet smile. “I got hot cuddling you and Master last night.”

Oh, Master was it?

Monroe did his best not to laugh, but it seemed to be a fruitless endeavor. “Poor baby.”

Giving his Daddy an adorable pout, Lorne nodded and sighed. “Master said I’m so sweet I probably almost melted.”

Before I could claim bullshit, the brat kept going, leaning in and kissing Monroe’s cheek. “But, Daddy, sometimes my mates make me feel naughty things, but that’s okay because that’s how mates are supposed to work.”

Basically.

But the urge to keep him tied to me twenty-four seven probably wasn’t how most people’s mating urge struck.

Monroe was quiet for a moment before bringing up a hand to stroke Lorne’s cheek and nodding slowly as his thumb caressed the soft skin that was barely covered in fuzz. “Four dates, huh?”

Lorne clearly wanted to throw himself at Monroe and give an enthusiastic response but he managed a slow nod even though he was shaking he was so excited. “But only if you’re ready too, Daddy.”

Very good point.

“No one gets rushed into anything they’re not ready for, but we might talk and come up with a compromise we’re all comfortable with.” I had every intention of keeping my wording carefully neutral, but Lorne decided to help.

His vibrating got even worse as the words flooded out. “Yes, compromises. I could ride Master while you watch, or while you make pancakes if you don’t want to watch, or I could just rub my dick against his very politely. I’m sure there’s a nice way to do that.”

Huh?

“And we’ll keep it all very private.”

That didn’t help.

Chapter 16

Monroe

His logic was adorable and fascinating.

“Those would be…they’d be very good compromises, you’re right.” And he was so horny he was going to explode.

It was obviously more than just need and the general excitement of having multiple partners. Lorne’s texts to Carrick proved that it wasn’t because he’d been denying himself orgasms either.

No, this was about him needing his mates…but that didn’t mean I would make it easy on either of them.

“I will discuss compromises when you can tell me what my hoard is.” I’d never been able to decide if it was obvious or not, but from the frowns they were giving me, they didn’t think it was easy.
