Kenzie sighed and nodded. “It’s a Daddy thing. They can’t seem to help it.”

And that jogged my memory.

“No, it’s a Dom thing in general. Carrick worries too.” I’d take worrying and frowning over talking to the ceiling like he needed a therapist, though.

The three of us looked over at Boyd and nodded.

Even Alick was trying not to smile. “I can see that being a trait that most Doms have.”

“I was surprised, but he did a good job of talking Daddy into doing something that I can’t talk about either. It relates back to the first thing I can’t talk about, though. So it’s all connected. But he did a really good job of making Daddy think first and not worry first.” I was starting to see the upsides of having two mates.

Kenzie opened his mouth and then frowned as he looked around. “I don’t have issues with privacy, but I’m starting to think we should have this conversation somewhere else. It might make Carrick happy so he’ll let you tell us stuff.”

Yep, Kenzie was very smart.

“Okay, after pancakes, because Daddy said I could have second breakfast, and then lunch we’ll go somewhere else.” Maybe the library?

Stefan was smart, so he might have good ideas about proving we could keep Carrick’s life private.

Boyd was finally ready to stop talking to himself and joined the conversation again. “Some of us have to work.”

The rest of us shrugged.

“Some of us have arranged our lives so we can work when we want to.” I wasn’t going to apologize for that. “I have to work in a few hours and I have two appointments this weekend. I’m very busy lately.”

Alick thought that was funny for some reason and it had Boyd glaring at him. “You think that’s funny?”

“Yes.” Alick sometimes had a strange sense of humor. “And it’s my day off, so I don’t have to work.”

Humans who worked with plants without it being a magic thing were fascinating. I started to tell Alick that and about how Carrick wasn’t a plant mage but then I realized I wasn’t sure I could say that either.

“You look like you have an upset stomach.” Kenzie leaned forward. “Don’t worry. Your pancakes will be here in just a minute.”

“No.” He was nice to worry since he wasn’t a Dom. “I thought of something nice to tell Alick and that led me to a thought about Carrick and then I realized I didn’t know if I could say that thought out loud because it might be private. It kind of relates back to the first thing he got me that’s special that I can’t tell you about.”

Kenzie leaned back and frowned. “That’s exhausting. See, this is why we don’t worry about privacy."

I had to agree, but Carrick had been very magey about the whole privacy thing.

“I’ll figure it out.” I just needed to figure out the right way to approach it. “I have to. He did this…and he said…ugh. This is hard.”

Painfully hard…and not in the good way.

Waving my hands around the table, I frowned. “You guys share. My life is hard right now.”

Kenzie giggled. “Hard.”

When half the diner giggled at his silly joke, I realized again that Carrick might have a point. “I can’t talk about hard things. I can just say stuff like he made me dinner and found my phone.”

That didn’t give nearly enough information about Carrick.

“And I forgot to ask exactly how much privacy Daddy wanted or if Carrick’s desire for privacy affected my relationship with Daddy.” Flopping back against the bench, I sighed. “I’m going to need more than just pancakes. Someone might need to go into the bakery for me.”

When we all turned to Boyd, because he hadn’t been chased out of there yet, he glared at all of us. “Don’t give me that look. I’m having lunch and then going back to work.”

Kenzie ignored him and focused on the important part. “But the frowning, it’s not…I mean…he’s always frowning?”

Hmm.

“That might be private too?” It wasn’t exactly sexual but he did frown then too. “I don’t know. Ask me something I can answer.”

Alick tried to be helpful. “You said in your text they’d figured out a way to help you keep from losing stuff?”

Oops.

“I definitely can’t talk about that yet.” Nope. “Carrick would frown. Like big frowns and grumbles and he’ll say stuff about privacy.”

Everyone at the table frowned, but before I could try to hint about why that was a bad idea, someone proved me right.

“I don’t understand. Are we talking about LoJacking him like we would a car?” As one of our helpful neighbors called out, even Kenzie rolled his eyes.

Yep, we needed to start hanging out someplace else if they wanted details about my mates.

Someone was going to have to start cooking for us and learn to make the good big pancakes if they wanted more details about my life.
