I quickly finished drying off before padding naked to the bed and sliding in behind her, gently tugging her back against me. She made a small noise of contentment, and I smiled, pressing a kiss to her sweet-smelling hair.
Sophia rolled over to face me and snuggled into my chest. I rubbed my hand up and down her back beneath the oversized t-shirt she was wearing—looked to be one of Chase’s old, worn shirts.
“Chase had to go on a quick run,” she mumbled into my chest, her voice thick with sleep. “He’ll be back in the morning.”
I didn’t like that he’d left without telling me, but I understood it. More than likely, it’d been spur of the moment, and he hadn’t had time to come say anything to me.
Shit happened like that sometimes.
I sighed and rested my chin on her head, holding her a little tighter. I knew how much she hated it when he was gone, when he wasn’t there with her. But at least I was here. So, if she had a flashback or a nightmare, I could hold her through it and give her whatever she needed instead of Jessica having to come in and sit with her.
“Okay, sunshine,” I whispered. “Go back to sleep. I’ve got you.”
Her arm wrapped over my side, and her other hand flattened over my chest. “I know,” she said quietly. “I love you, Kane,” she murmured, calling me by my real name and making my heart constrict. It wasn’t a name I heard often, and she was the only person I’d given permission to use it. She rarely did, unless she needed that extra closeness. Like now.
“I love you too,” I promised, my voice raspy. “With every fiber of my being.”
I jerked awake to the sound of the apartment door opening. By the time Chase slipped into the room, my hand was already wrapped around my pistol. He quirked a brow at me, and I set it back on the nightstand. When he shut the door, I eased off the bed, being extra careful to not wake Sophia as I did so. Once I was free of her and the blankets, I stood, feeling Chase’s eyes on me.
I glanced at him as I made my way to the dresser, immediately noting that his cock was thickening behind the zipper of his jeans. He clenched his jaw before turning away from my naked frame and dropping into his desk chair to take off his boots.
I tugged on a pair of boxers and jeans before yanking a shirt over my head. Chase frowned at me as he headed to the bathroom, yanking his shirt over his head. I damn near swallowed my tongue at the sight of his flat stomach and the swirls of dirty blonde curls smattered across his broad chest.
“Where are you going? It’s only like five in the fuckin’ mornin’, brother.”
I tried not to flinch at his use of the term brother when referring to me. I didn’t want to be his goddamn brother. I wanted to be his man. The man he loved and sought comfort in, just like he did with Sophia.
“Need to do intel,” I quietly told him as I stepped into the bathroom after him to brush my teeth. “Just didn’t want to leave Sophia alone. I’ll probably be back sometime this afternoon.”
I heard his jeans hit the floor, and it took every ounce of my restraint not to turn and look at him over my shoulder as I squeezed toothpaste onto my toothbrush.
“We’ll be at the bookstore until closing time if you want to swing by when you’re done.” He stepped up behind me, and his eyes met mine in the mirror as I scrubbed at my teeth. The lower half of his body was hidden behind me, but I could see his torso, and God, it made me thirsty for him. Fuck, he was killing me. “Be careful, Trigger,” he said quietly. “The Russians have no morals.”
I spat toothpaste into the sink before flashing him a grin in the mirror that was purely maniacal. The Russians were the least of my concerns. I wasn’t the least bit afraid of any of them.
“Good thing I don’t either.”

Sophia
Trigger was gone when I woke up the next morning, which put me in a little bit of a sour mood, especially since Chase hadn’t come to bed when he got in and was instead working on the books when I woke up. Granted, he made up for it by pinning me to the bed and eating me out like he was on death row and I was the last meal he’d requested. But still—both of my men knew how much I liked waking up in their arms.
I jerked my head up from the checklist in front of me, my heart slamming into my throat when the backdoor to my store opened. The clipboard I was holding clattered to the table in front of me as I prepared to bolt, Chase’s name a scream on the tip of my tongue before I realized it was just Trigger.
