“Are you sure about that?” King says venomously.

“Oh, I’m sure all right. Besides, my boys are out taking care of that cute little attorney now. She won’t be running her mouth, and her friend Prosecutor Samson is next on the list if he doesn’t accept my offer.”

I go to lunge at him, but Ice and King hold me back. It takes a second for me to regain my calm. I wish I hadn’t talked them into doing this my way. I’d gladly turn my back and let them make this fucker disappear.

“Not only am I going to walk away from all of this. I might even sue your rich ass for slander,” Broker taunts.

I narrow my gaze at him and tug from the tight grasp the two beside me have. However, I don’t charge at this motherfucker. I see him for who he truly is.

“That’s always burned you up, hasn’t it? That I have money,” I say in disgust.

“It made you perfect. If … when you come up dead, your Richie rich family will put the pressure on the department to solve your murder and bring a conviction. A few well-placed tips and evidence, and we’ll nail the Lost Souls once and for all,” he seethes.

“Riddle me this, motherfucker,” Brick barks. “Why the hard-on for us? We’re not into any of the shit the Falcons are into. We’re not in your way.”

Broker snorts. “Not in our way? You Goodie Two-shoes won’t let shit run through your territories. We have to work around you like pussies. That alone is enough to make me puke.

“No, but that’s not my reason for wanting to take you all down. My problem with the Lost Souls runs deeper than that. Before there was a Cage or a King, there was Kevlar.

“That motherfucker killed my old man. I won’t be satisfied until I ruin every chapter of your piece of shit club.”

“Kevlar is in jail. Has been for over ten years. You’re fucking with our livelihood, our families for some fucking bullshit with Kevlar?” Ice says in a deceptively calm voice.

“You have no idea what that motherfucker took from me. I vowed that I’d take all you bastards down one day, and here it is.”

“Hmm.” I shrug my shoulders. “Or so you thought.”

Federal agents begin to sweep into the building. The look of panic on Broker’s face is priceless. This has just gone over his head. The Falcon’s pockets aren’t deep enough to buy him out of this one.

“We have all we need,” Jeff an FBI buddy of mine says.

“He’s a cop killer. Make sure this sticks,” I say.

“Don’t worry. I have this dead to rights. Justice will be served.”

“Moran,” King says tightly.

I turn to look at him as he looks down at his phone. His expression makes my heart stop. I can’t breathe until he speaks again. “She’s fine now, but they were ambushed.”

I don’t hear the rest of his words. I rush out for my bike and take off for my woman.

CHAPTER 41

Hit a Wall

Reminisce

It’s been hours since we arrived at this safe house. Reap took my phone, promising to give it back when it was safe. For now, she needed to make sure it couldn’t lead anyone to us.

I wouldn’t have made a call, but I understand her concern. After the incident in the parking garage, I don’t plan to do anything that will keep me and my baby from getting home safe. I think I’m still in shock.

“How are you holding up?” Reap asks as she hands me a cup of tea.

“I don’t know.”

“Not for nothing. You earned my respect back there. Not everyone is built to be balls to the wall in a situation like that. You handled your business. You’re alive.”

I suck in a deep breath and nod. That I am. Yet, I’m so confused. Knight was so sure that I’d be safe to help out.

“What’s wrong, hon?” Reap says.

“I’m questioning everything. My relationship, my common sense. Like, did I just allow some dick to put me in a gunfight?”

Reap bursts into laughter. I’ve yet to find the humor in it all. Trust me, I’m trying.

“You don’t look like a silly woman to me. So I don’t think dick was your motivation. Now, that shit’s called love.” She pauses to look outside to where Grim has been watching out. “That shit will have you putting to ground anything that moves to protect what’s yours.”

I look into my cup. Her words hit home. I love this baby already, I’ll do everything I have to, to keep it safe. If that means protecting it with my life I would.

“Can I ask you a question?”

“Sure, shoot.”

I bite my lip and look up at her. She’s such a little woman, but the fierceness within her oozes off her. It also draws you in.

“How’d you end up protecting people and in the middle of a shootout. I mean, you didn’t even flinch.”
