I nod. “Hi.”

He grunts and throws a leg over his bike. I look at Reap’s and I’m grateful that I wore a pants suit today. I go to step toward her pink and black bike when the sound of tires screeching fills the garage. I freeze with my bag held to my chest.

Reap pulls two guns from beneath her hoodie and cut. Grim pulls two of his own. Reap grabs my arm and pulls me behind her just as an SUV turns the corner and gunfire starts.

She drags me behind a parked car and returns fire. I’m still in shock. Another car appears and more bullets ring out. The panic begins to rise. I’m breathing erratically.

“I’m going to kill you motherfuckers,” Grim growls when Reap just barely ducks a round of bullets.

It’s like I’m watching this from out of my body. The gunfire increases all around me. Reap empties her clips and reloads as if it’s nothing. In the back of my mind, I acknowledge this chick is badass in her own right.

“Stay down,” Reap barks at me.

A bullet rips into the car, right above my head. Something inside me snaps. I have a baby to think of. I’m not dying here. I reach into my bag and aim as I duck behind the back of the car. I start to shoot back.

I’m shaking and crying, but I keep shooting. I don’t stop until my clip is empty. The silence is deafening. Reap stands to my side watching me closely.

“You okay, hon? We need to go. You did good, sweetie, but I need you to breathe. We have to get out of here,” she says softly.

I nod and wipe at my tears. With shaking hands, I grab my bag from the ground and hold it and my gun protectively over my belly. My baby is safe.

We’re okay.

“Let’s go, now.”

I jump as Grim barks the words. He stands with his guns out guarding Reap’s bike. Once we’re on the machine with helmets secured and she brings it to life, he jumps on his own and we peel out of the garage at breakneck speed. I hold on tight, my mind spinning.

This is not okay, Knight. We have a baby.

CHAPTER 40

Take out the Trash

Knight

“This better work out just as you said, brother,” King says.

“Trust me it will.”

I may be able to reassure him, but my head is ready to explode. We had to roll out on the drop of a dime. I had no time to make sure Rem was secure.

All I could do was trust King when he said he’d send Grim and Reap. I’ve been there for King, he owes me, which is the only reason I didn’t lose my shit with the only option I had. Reminisce is in danger.

All that digging we did before allowing her to storm into her friend’s office with this case was for nothing. His secretary is the girlfriend of a Falcon. She blew the whistle, forcing our hand, but not before we found out the names of all the dirty bastards behind this.

Rem now has a target on her back because her friend Samson, the district attorney wants to nail them all. It’s the perfect opportunity for him to take the glory for a massive high-profile case like this.

Personally, I want this to be Rem’s case, but I know those days are over. This shit here is the reason why. I have to force myself to trust that the Lost Souls will have my back like I’ve always had theirs.

“You may have come to us to take our family down, but you became family. They will protect her,” Ice says beside me.

I look at him and nod. The sound of the metal doors rising calls my attention before I can reply. It’s showtime. The sooner we get through this the better.

Broker and his guys walk into the old packing warehouse and freeze. I can’t help the smile that comes to my face. They were expecting their cocaine connect, not us.

King and Ice flank my sides while Brick and his squad and a few of Ice’s boys surround us. An intimidating sight, I’m sure.

Actually, it’s written all over Broker’s face. Not for long though. The arrogant asshole I know appears quickly.

“What the fuck is this? You finally decided to deliver, Detective Moran?” he says with a smug smile.

Little does he know the Lost Souls already know who I am. Good to know he’s willing to forfeit my life to the bitter end. I won’t feel bad for shit that happens to him from here on out.

“It’s over, asshole. You’re going down for the attempted murder of an officer, witness tampering, drug, and gun trafficking, money laundering, the list is growing,” I snarl.

He throws his head back and laughs. “You pieces of shit think you’re the only ones with connections in high places. You can’t fucking touch me.”
