But since we were at his house, he knew he didn’t have to be too good, so he looked down at his own hands and made them go in and out. “I don’t think anyone needs more than this.”

Holding out his hands, he looked around the room. “Right?”

Alick was laughing and laughing and Stefan’s eyes had gone very wide. “Do they come that big?”

“Not in a human.” Alick went back to laughing as Stefan’s mouth dropped open. “Most dragons don’t seem to understand there’s a bit of a size difference between the average dragon and the average human.”

“Oh.” Frowning, Stefan looked around the room and then shook his head. “Never mind.”

Uh, yes, we had to mind.

Kenzie and I inched closer to the couch from where we’d been sitting on the floor and even Alick leaned forward in his chair. Stefan was starting to look just a tiny bit nervous, so we all gave him big smiles and I patted his knee. “It’s okay to share. We’re friends.”

Swallowing, Stefan’s gaze darted around between us. “Just to let you know, the smiles don’t make you look less dangerous.”

We were going to have to work on that then.

Shifting to wide eyes and trying to look sweeter didn’t seem to help either.

“Now you just look too innocent for what I was thinking about mentioning.” Stefan sighed and brought his hands up over his eyes. “Okay, this is better.”

“That’s a good idea. I’m so proud of you, Mr. Librarian.” Kenzie was smart and made Stefan feel more like his librarian self.

When he remembered he was the ruler of the books and the wielder of late fees, Stefan let out a deep breath. “Yes, this is important information that should be passed along. Knowledge should never be embarrassing.”

This was going to be good.

But Stefan made us wait and wait until he’d found the rest of his courage. “Knowledge is important. Information is good. Yes, Lorne needs mage mate information.”

I did?

Well, yes, I did.

“They’re very hard to manage, so yes, I need all the mage mate knowledge you’ve found.” Making that more obvious had Stefan letting out another deep breath.

When he had enough oxygen to make good decisions, he did his best to start. “The diaries were written by regular townspeople, so they’re…well, some of them have intimate details in them. That’s one of the main reasons why they’re not on the regular shelves.”

How had I missed that?

Confused, I turned to Kenzie. “Did we know those were dirty? Intimate means sex stuff in this case, right?”

Nodding, Kenzie inched closer. “Knowledge is very important, especially the intimate between mates kind.”

“And don’t forget the mage part. They’re a pain in the butt sometimes.” I loved Carrick to bits but he was so dramatic. “They complain a lot but they have good imaginations.”

Stefan giggled, still hiding behind his eyes. “I know. I read about that.”

Librarians got all the good stuff.

“Tell us.” I couldn’t get any closer without climbing on his lap—and Stefan wasn’t really a lap friend—so I tried just petting his knee again. “We won’t think that you’re naughty no matter what you say.”

He made a painful sound like he wanted to be a dramatic mage too. “Ugh. Okay.”

He might’ve agreed but it took him a long time to get the rest out. “Last week I finished reading a diary about a mage and a dragon couple where the mage…he did stuff.”

I hoped so.

“What kind of stuff?” Alick managed to ask the question without sounding too naughty, so I decided to stay quiet. Alick was so good at stuff like that. “I think Lorne could use some help.”

Maybe, but at least he had me very curious.

“Yes, this would help in his situation.” Sitting straighter, Stefan was trying to look more like Mr. Librarian. “It seems to be common knowledge that they can heal wounds and various types of issues like that. You know, stretched muscles too. Right?”

Oh, I had lots of fun muscles.

This was going to get good.

“Yes, we get it.” Alick was doing a very good job of being a grown-up, so I put my hand over my mouth to keep from making Stefan nervous.

“Good. Yes. Good.” Wiggling, Stefan nodded to himself. “Well, reading between the lines a bit, it seems like they can prep…certain muscles to make sure they’re ready for strenuous exercise…strenuous exercise.”

Stefan paused, probably hoping we’d catch on and he could stop talking, but I wasn’t sure I knew exactly what he was saying. So I moved my hand and leaned over toward Alick, doing my best to whisper. “Does he mean that Carrick can get my ass ready to be monster-fucked without an issue?”

Because that would be helpful.

Alick nodded as Stefan turned so red I was worried about his blood pressure. “Yeah, and I think what he’s also trying to say is that both of your mates could take you at the same time.”
