Well, shit.
He could do that.
So he did.

The next morning, I sat at Core’s kitchen table while he made eggs and bacon.
As for our pup, unless Core and I were in the same space, it was a difficult decision for Nanook to pick which one of us he wanted to be with.
Though, he had no issue with this when one of us was cooking, and definitely not when his dad was frying bacon, and he knew Core put in a couple of strips just for him because Core always cooked a treat for his boy.
Hence, Nanook was in the kitchen.
I’d texted Xanthia to tell her I’d be late into the office, and we needed to have a meeting so I could explain how some personal issues had been troubling me, but now were sorted.
It was going to be harder to send my next texts, but they had to be sent because people I loved were worried about me.
First, to a group that included Marcy, Kyra and Li.
Crisis averted. Core and I are back together. It’s a long story, but everything is good now. Cocktails at my place on Friday, not only so I can explain everything, but also so we can officially bid adieu to my apartment since I’m moving in with Core.
I sent that bombshell, and while it exploded, I sent my next to Archie.
Core and I talked. We worked it out. I hope you understand how things went down and why I reacted the way I did. But I’d really like to chat with you when you have some time.
My phone blew up before I finished my text to Archie.
What?! Marcy.
Whoa! Wow! Are you okay? Kyra.
That’s it? It was over, you go into seclusion, now it’s back on and you’re moving in? Marcy.
And is Core okay? Kyra.
And then just…Friday, cocktails? Seriously? Marcy
Before I could reply to them, I got from Archie, Absolutely. Just say when.
Thanks, I sent to Archie, then, I’ll get back to you. My phone is blowing up because I just told my friends we’re back together.
Then I sent to the girls, It’s a lot. It was emotional And I’m warning you, it’s private for Core so I’m not certain how much he’s okay with me sharing with you.
Then, before they could reply to that, my thumbs flew over my screen in order to send my next.
It meant a lot to me you gave me space. I needed it. I couldn’t have dealt with anyone being in my face, no matter how well-intentioned.
Off that went and then I sent, But I’m okay. More than okay, I’m happy and relieved and Core and I are in a good place. And yes, Core is okay too. It’s all good.
While typing this, I got from Archie, Not a surprise and cool. I’m just glad you took the time to listen to him. I know it was heavy. I get it. It was tough to wrap my head around too. I just had to get to the place where I paid attention to the men I knew, not what I knew about them. But we’ll talk. Just let me know what time is good for you. xxoo.
Reading her text, I felt like my heart let out a breath it had been holding for a week and a half.
Because there it was, in a text-based nutshell.
Paid attention to the men I knew, not what I knew about them.
That was exactly what I needed to hold on to.
While reading this, I received, Okay. Friday. Love you and SFG you sound better, Marcy.
For a second, I didn’t know what “SFG” meant and thought I’d have to open Safari to find out, then I figured it out: So fucking glad.
I catalogued that to use it later.
So pleased for you and Core and can’t wait to see you! Kyra.
And finally, Li, who we probably woke up from all our texting, OMG! THIS MAKES ME SO HAPPY!
I figured Li would tell Mom and Andy, but I also had to tell Mom and Andy.
Therefore, I texted Mom, Everything is fine with Core. Back as it should be. Can I come over tonight for a glass of wine and explain?
I immediately got back, Yes, honey. I’m so relieved to hear you two have worked things out. I’d hoped you would. See you tonight. Can’t wait.
Simple. No pressure. Loving.
My mom knew me so well.
And my mom was the best.
I put my phone down and took a second with that because I had an appreciation for it then like I’d never had before.
I was interrupted in this warm thought when Core slid a plate in front of me.
I stared at it.
It wasn’t eggs and bacon.
It was a homemade hash brown patty browned to perfection, on top of which were precisely sliced avocados, on top of which was a perfectly fried egg that appeared artistically dotted with pepper and sprinkled with minced chives. And to the side there were three rashers of crispy bacon.
