Magnum leaned toward Romeo and growled, “Don’t fuck up our alliance. Got no goddamn enemies right now ‘cause of it. We lose that, we could have other clubs testin’ us.”

Romeo jerked his chin toward the gavel. “See where that’s sittin’? Ain’t in front of you, brother.”

“After the next election, might not be sittin’ in front of you, brother.”

This meeting was going sideways. He needed to rein it in. He picked up that gavel and slammed it on the table. “Done chit-chattin’ like a bunch of bitches. Let’s get serious.”

Romeo couldn’t get out of the basement fast enough. Magnum burned a hole in the side of his face during the whole fucking meeting. If his enforcer was trying to make him crack, he failed.

Dick’s was quiet tonight as was typical on Tuesdays. It was one reason they held their executive meetings that particular night of the week. That way they could hear themselves think.

He headed straight behind the bar because after dealing with that bullshit, he needed a fucking drink.

And a full bong. With some really prime Kush.

While plenty of perks existed for being the Knights’ prez, it involved plenty of headaches, too. Whiskey and weed would serve as his aspirin.

Just as he finished downing his first shot of Jack Daniels, the entrance door opened and someone he didn’t expect walked in.

What the actual fuck? Of all nights she had to show up on a fucking Tuesday?

Without giving him a heads up?

Holy shit, this could end up being a fucking disaster. Especially after that whole shit with Magnum.

Worse, the man hadn’t left yet. Magnum was most likely still down talking to Cisco. That meant he could come upstairs at any second.

Romeo quickly skirted around the bar and headed in Maddie’s direction. As soon as he got to her, he angled his body to block anyone coming up from the basement from seeing her. But that was only a temporary fix. Maddie did not blend in well at Dirty Dick’s. Her presence drew attention, as was obvious with the majority of men’s eyes turned her way. “What the fuck you doin’ here?”

Her eyebrows pinned together. “I texted you and you didn’t answer.”

That was because he hadn’t checked his damn phone during the meeting. Even if he saw it, he never responded immediately to any female. If he did, they might think he was waiting to hear from them. He wasn’t. Usually. “So, you just show the fuck up without knowin’ if I’d be here?” Or busy with some other female?

The crease in her forehead deepened. “I didn’t know it would be a problem.”

The problem’s name was Magnum. Romeo’s eyes sliced to the far back corner of Dick’s and the door that led to the basement.

Fucking fuck.

“If it’s not a good time—”

He firmly grabbed her elbow and used it to hustle her toward the kitchen. He did not want to deal with more of Magnum’s paranoid bullshit.

Hell, right now he didn’t want to deal with the man at all. What Romeo did with Maddie wasn’t the sergeant at arms’ goddamn business.

It was no one’s beside the two people involved.

“Why you here?” he growled after shoving her through the swinging door into the kitchen.

“I can leave,” she snapped back. “Jesus, I didn’t think you’d be such a bitch about me showing up at a public bar.”

Hold up. She was fucking copping an attitude with him? “Ain’t any public bar and you know that shit.”

“I still don’t see the problem.”

Of course she didn’t. Should he warn her about Magnum sticking his nose where it didn’t belong and potentially contacting her psycho stepfather? If he did, he might lose out on the most likely reason for her showing up tonight. He considered his options. “You ever talk to Magnum?”

Her forehead scrunched up again. “Why would I talk to him?”

That was all he needed to hear. “Just wasn’t sure if he checked in with you.”

“No reason for him to do so.”

Romeo agreed. He hoped like fuck that Magnum wouldn’t recognize Maddie’s cage.

“Are we going to your place?”

“We sure ain’t in the kitchen to make fuckin’ tacos.”

“Well, it is Taco Tuesday.”

His feet stuttered to a stop. Then he shook his head and kept moving. He’d feel safer once they were behind closed doors. In his crib. With all the locks securely set.

Not even two minutes later, he was turning all of those same locks and finally breathing in relief.

He turned to check out the woman who had hunted him down. Not that she had to search hard. “You come back for a second helpin’?”

“A second helping?”

She knew exactly what he meant. But if not, he’d help her out. “Yeah, of this…” He grabbed his dick and shook it.

She rolled her brown eyes. “Classy.”

“You want classy, you’re in the wrong fuckin’ place, woman.”

“Oh, thanks for clarifying. Now, do you want to unlock the door so I can find someone with some class?”
