“About fifteen,” I tell her, and she nods, drying herself off. She looks at me.
“You’re distracting me,” she scolds as she slips on a pair of baby-blue panties, grabbing the matching bra. “Stop looking at me like that.”
“I can look at you any way I want,” I retort, leaning against the counter behind me, and she just laughs.
“Is that so?” she shoots back at me, grabbing the blue jeans and putting them on. They mold her every fucking curve.
“It is so.” I fold my arms over my chest and my legs at my ankles.
“Why is that?” she asks, grabbing the baby-blue top and slipping her arms in the holes where they go. The thick spaghetti straps sit over the bra straps as she buttons down the front, tucking it in when she’s done.
“Because you’re mine.” I push off from the counter and kiss her bare neck. “And I can watch you all night long if I want.”
She laughs as she puts her head back for me to kiss her. I bend and kiss her lips softly. “How can I argue with that logic?” She grabs the hairbrush and brushes her hair. “I need my shoes, and I’m ready,” she announces, walking to the closet and slipping her feet in a pair of Gucci flip-flops. “Okay, where are we going?” She smiles.
“It’s a surprise.” I slip my hand in hers. “Grab your phone,” I remind her of her cell phone that is on the side table. “And I would text your dad. Tell him you might be out of service for the next couple of hours.”
She looks at me, trying to figure out where we are going. Instead of texting her father, what she does is call him, and he answers right away. “Twice in one day.” He laughs.
“Yeah, don’t get used to it,” she jokes. “Listen, I’m calling you to tell you that I’ll be out of range for a couple of hours.” She looks at me, rolling her lips.
“What does that mean?” he snaps, and I can imagine his face.
“Xavier is taking me on a date,” she starts to say, and I close my eyes, thinking maybe calling her father wasn’t a good idea.
“Oh, if you are with Xavier, it’s fine,” he backpedals. “Have fun and be careful. Gotta go. Your mother is calling me.” He hangs up, and she looks down at the phone in shock.
“What the fuck?” she mumbles, but I don’t have time to tell her anything when there is a knock at the door.
“Ride’s here,” I say, grabbing her hand again and pulling her with me. She puts the phone in her back pocket. We make our way down to the SUV that drove me this morning.
The man has the door open for her, and I hold her hand as she gets in. I’m expecting him to close the door, but instead, she lets go of my hand and moves over to the other side, so I can get in with her. I sit down, looking over at her as she slides closer to me. I put my arm around her as the driver gets into the car. “So are you going to give me any clues?” She bends her arm, slipping her fingers into mine.
“No.” I smile and then bend my head to kiss her lips. Every single time my lips touch hers, it’s like a piece of me is put back together. Every single time my lips touch hers, it’s like breathing becomes that much easier. Every single time my lips touch hers, it’s like I’ve finally found my home.
“Fine,” she huffs. “As long as you hold my hand.” I pick up her free hand and bring it to my lips.
“Always,” I tell her, looking in her eyes and wondering if she feels the same way I do.
CHAPTER 29
VIVIENNE
“Always.” He kisses my fingers, looking into my eyes. The flutters in my stomach feel so much different this time. It’s a tightness that comes with it. When he walked into the room before, I was so anxious for him, I had no idea what to do. So instead, I just straddled him and hoped he could feel my strength. As my eyes stare into his, the lump in my throat stops me from saying what I really want to say.
“Look,” he says, pointing to something out the window. I turn my head to the side and see the helicopter. My mouth opens in shock as I look over at him. “Surprise!”
“Oh my God!” I exclaim as the SUV comes to a stop. “Is that a helicopter?” I ask him with excitement as the driver opens the door for me.
I step out, feeling Xavier next to me. He puts his hands on my shoulders. “I can’t tell, is this a good surprise or a bad surprise?”
