Xavier comes out of the bathroom with his shorts on and a T-shirt. “You look better naked,” I tell him, and he laughs at me.

“You, too.” He laughs. “You getting up or staying in?”

“I’m going to get up and work.” I toss the covers off me, going to the bathroom. I wash, slipping on a pair of pants and a sweater. I walk out smelling coffee, and when I walk up the stairs, he’s pouring two cups of it. I walk up to him and hug him from the back, kissing his shoulder.

He hands me a cup, kissing my neck as we walk out of the boat. “It’s going to be a nice day,” I observe as I slip my shoes on.

“Where are you going?” he asks me, slipping on his shoes.

“I figured I’d join you on the walk.” He smiles. “If that is okay?”

“More than okay,” he confirms, the two of us walking down the dock with his arm over my shoulder. We don’t really talk as we walk with Beatrice in front of us. We get back when the sun rises, and I stop at my boat, getting on it. Beatrice follows me.

“You go work,” he urges me. “I’ll make breakfast.”

I nod at him, walking into my galley with Beatrice behind me. I put the coffee cup in the sink before grabbing my laptop and charger. “Should I work here?” I ask Beatrice. “Or should I go next door?” I look over and see if I can see him. “Is it too needy?” I ask her. “I mean, should I give him space?” She tilts her head to the side. “I don’t want to give him space.” I think about it, jumping when I hear a knock on the back door.

He opens the door. “What is taking you so long?” He sticks his head into the galley. “Is everything okay?” He looks at me, his eyes roaming my face. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing is wrong,” I assure him, and he steps into my cabin. “It’s just that I thought maybe you wanted space.”

He puts his hands on his hips. “You are going to work.” He tilts his head. “You can write, and I can read.” He smiles, and I shake my head, laughing.

“Fine.” He opens the door and steps outside, waiting for me. “I just thought maybe you would want alone time.”

He bends to kiss my lips. “That was sweet of you,” he says, slapping my ass before he walks away. “Don’t do that again.”

“Wow,” I note, walking off the boat. “For the record, if you are going to slap my ass”—I look up at him—“it would feel better with your cock in me.” He snorts as I walk onto the boat, going to the couch and sitting down. He comes in, making us omelets and cleaning up while I open my computer. He sits next to me, reading the book with my feet in his lap.

His phone rings, and I look over at him, waiting to see if he’s going to get it. He doesn’t move a muscle. “Are you not even going to check who it is?”

“It’s probably my agent, Miles,” he replies, his eyes never leaving the book. “I think I’m supposed to have dinner with him.” He puts the book down and looks over at me.

“That’s nice,” I tell him, and he shrugs.

“He wants to talk to me about going back,” he shares, rubbing my legs. I just look at him, wanting to ask him how he feels about it, but not sure if I should. He looks at me, smirking.

“Ugh,” I say, knowing he’s waiting for me to ask him the question. “Do you think you would ever go back?”

“I would have to sit down with the team’s GM to even consider it. All the cards have to be on the table.”

“If you want,” I start nervously, “you can talk to my dad about it.”

“I don’t need him to think I’m unstable while I’m dating his daughter,” he says, and it makes my chest contract. I put my computer down on the table, then grab the book out of his hand and place it down next to the computer before climbing into his lap.

His hands go to my hips while my hands go to his face. “You are not unstable,” I correct him, my eyes searching his. “If anything, you are the most courageous out of everyone.”

“You’re just saying that because you like me.” He rolls his eyes.

“No.” I shake my head. “I really like your dick,” I try to joke with him, “and the rest of you is growing on me.” He laughs right before I kiss his lips. “But with my father, or even my uncle Max, you can look at things you can do to help other players who are in your shoes but don’t know what to do or who to talk to about it.” My thumbs rub over his cheeks. “You can do so much good.” I kiss his lips. “But first, call your agent and see what he has to say.”
