“But what if I’m asked to dance?” Harlow asked.

“Don’t dance.”

“Everyone is going to be there and if I turn down men to dance, they might start asking questions.”

Hunter took a deep breath. “And if you want to feel my cock balls-deep inside you at the end of the night, you’ll make sure no one else gets to feel what’s mine.”

He had no right to request this.

“Fine.”

“You’re giving in that easily?” he asked.

“I have no desire to dance with anyone. If I’m going to dance, it will be with my girls.” She gave a chuckle. “You don’t have to worry.”

He kissed the column of her neck. “You’re a pain in my ass.”

“And you enjoy it. I keep you on your toes.” She released a sigh. “Will you be there for my birthday?”

“It’s a girls’ night.”

She snorted. “Yeah, and I know for a fact that Smokey is not going to stay away. He cannot leave Ava alone. Ugly Beast will also turn up, and do you even want me to get started on Carlos?”

“If a bunch of the guys go, I’ll go. Otherwise, I’ll let you enjoy your birthday.”

She didn’t say anything. Running his hands down her arms, he placed them on her stomach and watched her in the mirror. She had already closed her eyes. His dick was still inside her, and he knew he was going to have to move her and possibly have a shower or a bath, but he didn’t want to.

“Did you always want to be a member of the Hell’s?” Harlow asked.

“Yes.”

“What is your story?”

“There is no story.”

She opened her eyes and tilted her head back. He dropped his gaze to look at her. “There is always a story.”

“Not for me. I don’t look back. I only look forward.”

“Why?”

“There is no hope in looking back. There is no point in it. You can’t change anything.”

“Was there ever a time you wanted something more?” she asked.

“You mean like a wife? Kids? A family? A nine-to-five and the fucked-up picket fence of the dream?” he asked.

He lifted her up off his cock and forced her to her feet.

“Don’t, Harlow,” he said.

“Don’t what?”

“Don’t get it into your head that this is anything more than it is. It’s just sex and if you think we’re going to get married and have a bunch of kids, you’re wrong. That is never going to happen. I don’t want that. All I care about is using your pussy.”

He took a step back and made his way toward the bathroom.

Why did women have to do that? Marriage and kids and all that was just some fucked-up ideal that never worked. Men wanted to fuck. Women wanted to be fucked, and sometimes kids were messed up because of the selfishness of parents’ dreams.

Stepping back toward the bedroom, he looked around to see that Harlow wasn’t there.

“Fuck!”

He’d not heard his front door open and he quickly made his way downstairs, not giving a shit that he didn’t have any clothes on. He hadn’t left Harlow alone long enough for her to get dressed and leave. When he got to the living room, though, he was shocked to see how much she had actually done. She’d pulled on her jeans and shirt, and was currently putting her boots on. He was thankful for those boots.

“What are you doing?” he asked.

“Going home.”

“No, you’re not.”

“No, you don’t get to say that kind of shit to me and then tell me what to do.” She lifted up and glared at him. “There was no reason for you to be an asshole to me. I get it, we’re nothing but the basic. I never asked for anything more. I don’t know why you have to keep saying the same stuff. I’ve already got it, Hunter. It has already computed in my little brain that you and I are nothing more than this. I don’t expect anything from you. I don’t want anything from you. I … get … it.”

Hunter grabbed her hips and then pulled her in close. “Good, then you are already overdressed.”

“No.”

“You’re telling me no.”

“Yeah, I’m telling you no. I’m angry at you. I’ve not given you any reason to believe that I’ll be a pain in your ass. I’ve given you the space you’ve needed. What more do you want from me?”

“I want to fuck you, Harlow,” he said.

“Not happening. I’m going home.” She pulled out of his arms and made her way toward the door.

“Stay,” he said. “It’s way too fucking cold out. Your apartment isn’t even warm because you haven’t paid your bill. Stay.”

Harlow’s hand was on the door handle about to open it.

He didn’t want her to leave. He liked sleeping beside her. Ever since Harlow had been sharing his bed in this place, he had finally been able to sleep peacefully, and he couldn’t recall a time he’d ever been able to do that.
