She smiled.

Glancing over at her brother, she saw him glaring. “What’s the matter, George?”

“I don’t like it.”

“What? That I’m growing up? Maybe that’s what you’re having trouble with. You’re not going to change it.”

“Don’t do anything stupid,” Big Dick said.

She wanted to tell him she was already doing a lot of stupid things, but instead she smiled at him and then walked over to the bar. Hunter was only a couple of seats away and she wanted to ask him what he thought.

Why? It’s just sex. If he had a problem, he’d have spoken up.

She ran a hand down her face, hating how this was making her feel. It was a messed-up situation she had gotten herself into. Even though it was all her fault.

“Can I come?” Larissa asked.

“Huh?” Harlow asked.

She then realized that Larissa couldn’t see inside her brain, and wasn’t asking if she could join herself and Hunter in whatever fun they were having.

“To your birthday party,” Larissa asked. “It sounds like a lot of fun.”

Harlow forced a smile to her lips. “Sure, it’ll be fun. I figured you were already invited anyway.”

Larissa shrugged. “I’ve never been invited to a girls’ party before.”

This made her frown. “You haven’t?”

“No. I know my dad blames himself and his commitments, but no one ever invited me. I’d love to come and have some fun.”

Larissa was the town preacher’s daughter, one of the sweetest people Harlow knew, and someone who got along with anyone. She couldn’t recall anyone ever saying anything bad or negative about her.

“It’ll be a lot of fun,” Harlow said.

“Maybe you’ll meet the guy of your dreams,” Larissa said.

The guy of her dreams was a few feet away but she didn’t say that. Instead, she merely smiled. “I don’t know. Do you think I should pick a guy when I’m getting blind drunk?”

Larissa wriggled her nose. “You’re right. That is not the best circumstance to be in, is it?”

Harlow chuckled. “Maybe you’ll meet the guy of your dreams.”

“No one meets the guy or girl of their dreams at a bar,” Big Dick said, cutting in on their conversation. “There are limits to what you should accept.”

She rolled her eyes and looked at Larissa. “I wouldn’t take advice from this guy.”

“Nah, he doesn’t even have relationships.”

Harlow chuckled.

“I’m older than both of you and I have experience.”

Taking a deep breath, Harlow turned to her brother. “Come on then, hotshot, you tell me the best place to find the one.” She held her fingers up and made air quotes.

“Church,” Big Dick said. “What do you say, Hunter?”

Harlow tried not to tense but she felt him so close. The warmth of him was pressed against her back and she tried to ignore him, but it was so hard to do. Nibbling her lip, she tried to keep her focus on Big Dick.

“About what?” Hunter asked, in that guttural tone of his. Less than twenty-four hours ago, his face had been between her thighs, licking her pussy, telling her to come all over his face, and now he stood at her back.

“Women finding their man. It shouldn’t happen in a bar, should it? My sister thinks she is going to meet the man of her dreams on her birthday.”

Harlow opened her mouth about to yell at him, but Larissa chuckled. “Silly, that is so me. I wondered if she would meet the man of her dreams.”

“There is no such thing,” Hunter said.

“Such thing?” Larissa asked.

“Mr. Right. Mrs. Right. It’s all bullshit that companies employ to try and manipulate poor saps like yourself. There is attraction that you can choose to act on, and learning to have some fun. That’s all you need. You don’t need any other shit. Cold, hard fucking. Keeping each other warm on a cold night.”

Harlow hated what he was saying. But she knew it was also the truth. Hunter believed in his kind of truth and she hated it. It was like a bucket of cold water thrown over her head, but there was no denying the truth.

There was no future with her and Hunter. Just sex. Just fucking. Nothing else. When he got bored, she knew he was going to end it. It was only a matter of time.

She had no choice but to stop thinking with her heart. All that needed answers was her body and mind. Her heart didn’t play a role right now.

“What about when you’re sick?” Larissa asked.

“What?” Big Dick and Hunter asked.

“Well, it’s all right saying that it’s just a basic fundamental act, and that is exactly what sex is. It’s one of the main pleasure zones, basic and animalistic, but also, what about procreation and everything in between, or hanging out with your buddies and the club?”

Harlow smiled at Larissa.

“There is no such thing as love,” Hunter said.

“I can imagine to a lot of people they don’t believe in love, but from what I see, there comes a point where love is necessary. You may not want it, but the human mind needs more than skin on skin contact, or sex. There needs to be a meeting of the minds, an understanding of principles, of discipline, and I guess an acceptance with each other. When you’re much older and sex is not an option, who will you share your life with? What about memories being made? When you look back, will you look at all those sexual experiences and be happy with the cold reality of meaningless encounters, or will you grasp at those memories that did more than bring a few seconds of pleasure?”
