Pushing her thoughts aside, she rested fully back on the seat. “Hopefully, she isn’t pissed we just showed up.”
Corbin grinned over at her. “I doubt she’ll be pissed. Surprised? Hell, yeah, but I know she’s been wanting us to come down, and telling her over the phone we needed to talk to her about our relationship is something she’s been wanting to do.”
Yeah, Izabella had told Crestin everything about her and Corbin, and although she hadn’t wanted to tell her it over the phone, she couldn’t wait until now to do it. That would have been too long, and her friend needed to know. Although Crestin hadn’t been upset about it, she definitely had sounded a little surprised by Izabella’s admission.
Maybe she’d had a feeling about what was going on, or maybe she hadn’t thought it would progress the way it had. Either way, Crestin was happy for them.
“I knew something was going on when I saw you last. I’m just glad you two finally found each other after all these years. It’s about time.”
Remembering that conversation, Izabella replayed it in her head and couldn’t help but smile about it. Crestin approved, and Izabella knew she wouldn’t have been able to just walk away from Corbin. She had loved him for years, and now she could be in love with him without worrying anymore. It was a freedom the likes of which she’d never felt, and damn, it was incredible.
Corbin held on to Izabella’s hand tighter and glanced at her.
He loved this woman so fucking much his chest hurt just thinking about it. He saw Crestin’s small house up ahead, but there was another car in the driveway.
“I hope we aren’t crashing anything,” Izabella said softly.
Corbin pulled the truck to a stop beside the curb, cut the engine, and even though he had the window slightly cracked and was a good distance from the house, he heard the sound of shouting.
“What the fuck?” He opened the driver’s side door but glanced at Izabella before he got out. “Stay here.”
“Hell no. If Crestin is in trouble, I’m going in there, too.”
He growled low but wasn’t going to argue this. He’d just make sure to keep her behind him. Once they were both out of the truck and making their way toward the house, the sound of the shouting grew louder.
Without knocking, Corbin opened the front door. Crestin was between the couch and coffee table with her arms crossed and tears tracking down her cheeks. There was a guy on the opposite side of the coffee table, his face red and the anger coming from him clear.
“You’re a damn bitch, Crestin. And I’m glad I fucked all those other women.”
Rich. That is that little motherfucker, Rich.
Something snapped inside Corbin as he listened to this prick talk to his sister like that. Crestin was clearly upset, and even if she’d planned on dumping this asshole anyway, she was obviously hurting. He charged forward, and it was then that both Rich and Crestin glanced his way, clearly just now realizing they’d entered.
“What the hell?” Rich said right before Corbin grabbed the front of his shirt and pushed him back up against the wall. He lifted the scrawny fuck off the ground easily and knew he needed to at least keep his head.
He was pissed enough over the cheating aspect, and because Rich had betrayed his twin, but after hearing what Rich had just said, a beast was moving inside Corbin, rising swiftly to the surface.
“Hey, man, get off me,” Rich said and struggled to get free, but Corbin was bigger than he was and angry enough it felt like the power of ten men moved through his veins, giving him strength.
“You think you can talk to my sister like that?” He gritted the words out. “You think you can betray her, hurt her, and it’s all good?”
Rich’s eyes widened. “This is between Crestin and me.” Rich stuttered out the words.
“No, when you thought to cut my twin down, it became about you and me now.”
Rich was trying in vain to pry Corbin’s hands from his shirt, but this guy was no match for him.
“Corbin, let him go. He’s not worth it, believe me.” Crestin’s voice was behind him, and although he wanted to beat the living shit out of this prick, he didn’t want his sister to see this.
Taking a step closer to Rich, he wasn’t about to walk away... not just yet. “I could make it so you limp for the rest of your life.”
“For what?” Rich stuttered again.
“For hurting Crestin.”
Rich shook his head. “You’re crazy. Both of you are.”
“Fuck you, Rich,” Crestin said.
“Corbin, let him go. I don’t want him in my house anymore.”
Corbin looked at Rich right in the eyes, baring his teeth and hoping this little asshole realized how much he’d fucked up. But he found the strength to let go of Rich. Taking a step back, he still blocked Rich’s way.
