One said Littles, the next said Middles, another said Pets and the fourth said, Play.
Maeve stared around in surprise. The entrance didn’t give much idea what was behind each area.
“Hello, I’m Evelyn. Welcome to Penelope’s Playground.”
Huh? Who was Penelope?
She tightened her hold on Gray’s hand.
“Penelope is the owner of this shop, along with her Daddy.” Evelyn winked at her, obviously trying to make her feel more at ease. “Now, you’re wanting access to the entire store for an hour?”
“Yes, we’ll only really be in the Littles area and the play area, but we’d like to be undisturbed. It’s important that we’re alone. I also have two guards watching the entrances.”
“Of course,” Evelyn said warmly, not even hesitating. “I’ll remain right here. If you need me, there is an intercom system. Have fun. Oh, and we can ship too if you like.”
Ship? Ship what?
Then Gray turned to her. “Before we go in, little girl, there’s a few rules. Daddy is in charge. You must hold my hand unless I give you permission to let go. Understand?”
She blushed, but nodded.
Jeez, did he have to do this where Evelyn could hear? Then again, she was likely used to it.
“Words,” he said firmly.
“Yes.”
“Yes, Daddy,” he said.
“Yes, Daddy.” Yikes, he really was intent on pushing her.
Gray opened the Littles door and led her inside. They walked through a tunnel-like area. On either side of them were tall glass cases, filled with toys. And then they came out into an open area and her brain nearly exploded. Ahead of her was an indoor playroom. It had a slide, a swing, and even a merry-go-round. Everything sat on a padded area so if you fell, you were protected. She let go of Gray’s hand and ran toward the playground.
But before she got there, a large arm slipped around her waist, bringing her to a stop.
“Daddy! What are you doing?”
“Did you ask for permission to leave my side?” he rumbled. “To let go of my hand?”
Oh. Shoot.
She relaxed in his arms and he let her go. Turning, she reached back to cover her bottom. She had an idea that she might be in a bit of trouble here.
She took a step back at the stern look on his face. He raised an eyebrow. “You sure that’s the move you want to make right now?”
She wasn’t exactly sure of anything.
“Daddy, I didn’t mean to. I just got so excited.”
“Little girl, I know that this might seem silly to you, but it is important that you learn to obey when I give you an order. Whether it’s something small like holding my hand, or whether it’s to hide when you’re in danger. You get me?”
She bit her lip. “Yes, I understand.”
“Then you also understand that I have to punish you,” he murmured.
Guilt flooded her and tears dripped down her cheeks.
Alarm filled his face. “What is it? What’s wrong? Are you in pain?”
“No, I just feel so b-bad that I disobeyed you. I’m so-sorry.”
He sighed. “You know what’s good for that guilt? What will erase it?”
“A spanking?”
“Yes. A punishment. Because afterward, everything will be forgiven and forgotten, all right? That will help take care of the guilt you feel.”
“I understand, Daddy.”
He held out his hand to her. To her surprise instead of immediately punishing her, he drew her into his chest and held her tight. “You’re a good girl, Maeve.”
“I don’t think I am, Daddy.”
“You are. You just need to remember to listen to Daddy better. And you need to learn that you are not a nuisance. You are beautiful, smart, and so precious to me.”
She wrapped her arms around him. What had she ever done to deserve him?
“I think there should be somewhere we can take care of your punishment properly.” He moved them around the playground and she gave it a longing look. Then they ended up in a corner of the room, tucked away behind a screen. She looked at the sign and gulped.
Punishment area.
Behind the screen, there was a wooden chair facing the corner. The back of the chair had a sign on it. Time-Out.
There was a larger chair off to the side and behind the chair on a tall stand, a variety of paddles and straps were hanging from hooks.
Oh, shoot.
She sucked in a sharp breath. He wasn’t going to paddle her, was he?
“It’s all right, girl. I know you’re not ready for a paddle.”
He led her over to the large, wooden chair. Then he sat and drew her between his legs. He held her hips.
“Why are you being spanked?”
“Because I ran off from you when I was told to stay by your side and hold your hand.”
“That’s right,” he replied. “I’m also going to include part of your punishment for the things you said earlier in the car. You are not a hassle or a nuisance or any of that other crap you were spouting, got me?”
