“How did you find her?” Alejandro asked. “Maeve called you?”
“No, I had someone find her for me.”
“I did ask Isaiah to find Gray’s number,” Maeve added.
“You had someone find her?” Alejandro asked in a low voice. “Who? And just who are you?”
“Gray Hawkins. I work for Drew Markovich, who is a businessman in Billings, Montana.”
Alejandro frowned and looked to be thinking. “Yes. I know of Drew Markovich.”
“You do?” Maeve asked. “How? You’ve met him?”
“No, but he’s connected to some acquaintances,” Alejandro said mysteriously. “You know the Iron Shadows?”
Gray straightened. “Yes, the President of the Iron Shadows is engaged to Markovich’s daughter. Do you know Reyes?”
“No, but I have spoken often to one of the members, Razor. His fiancée is friends with Cat.”
“I’ll explain how I met Tabby later,” Cat told Maeve, who was giving her a curious look.
“Markovich, huh?” Alejandro had a calculating look on his face. “You work for him? Gray Hawkins.”
“Yes.”
“Are the two of you staying in Nashville?” Alejandro asked suddenly.
“Uh, no,” Maeve said, surprised by the change of topic. “We’re going back to where Gray lives.”
“Where is that?” Cat asked.
“I live on Markovich’s estate which is about fifty minutes out of Billings. His property has good security. I don’t want Maeve at risk.”
“She’s at risk where she is?” Alejandro asked.
“My stalker found me,” she whispered.
Alejandro’s face grew cold and Cat looked shocked.
“What? How?” She started to talk rapidly in Spanish. Alejandro replied soothingly.
“Guys! Guys! Cat, be quiet!” she said sharply.
“What?” Cat turned to look at her, fury filling her face.
“I can’t keep up with what you are saying, but knowing you, you’re thinking you need to come back here.”
“I am coming back there.”
“To do what?” Maeve asked her.
“Protect you and kill this motherfucker.”
“Which is what I am going to do,” Gray said firmly.
Cat glared at him.
“It’s my job now as Maeve’s man to protect and care for her. I appreciate all that you’ve done. All of you. But Maeve is mine and I wouldn’t be much of a protector if I couldn’t keep her safe and eliminate this threat.”
Alejandro’s eyes narrowed. “We don’t know you.”
“No. But all you need to know is that Maeve is my world.”
“Well,” Cat muttered. “That is very nice and all, but are you equipped to deal with a stalker?”
“I will do whatever it takes to keep Maeve safe. And we are leaving soon. By the time you get here, we’ll be halfway to Montana.”
Alejandro’s eyebrows rose. “You’re driving?”
“Maeve is scared of flying, so yes, we’re driving.”
“And you’re willing to drive for hours just so Maeve doesn’t have to fly?” Cat asked.
“Of course. Whatever Maeve needs, I’ll give to her.”
Alejandro and Cat shared a look.
“You’ll need protection on your way home,” Alejandro said smoothly. “I insist on my men going with you.”
She waited for Gray to argue that he didn’t need his men.
“I would be grateful for their company.”
Okay. That shocked her, but she tried not to let it show.
“As long as they know they’re taking orders from me. And when we get to Markovich’s, they’re to leave. He won’t allow strangers on his property.”
“Very well,” Alejandro agreed.
What was going on with these guys?
“And I will be calling Drew Markovich to have a chat, you may wish to warn him,” Alejandro said. “You keep our girl safe.”
“Please don’t rush home,” Maeve said. “We have everything under control and I don’t want to ruin your vacation. I’d never forgive myself.”
Cat sighed. “You know you’re more important than any trip, Maeve.”
“I know. Love you guys.”
“Love you too,” Cat told her before turning to Gray. “You’re in charge of her safety. She is precious to us. And if anything happens to her . . . I don’t need to tell you what’ll happen to you.”
“I understand.”
The call ended and Maeve looked to Gray with a smile. “Well, that went well.”
“She’s almost scarier than he is,” he told her as he drew out his phone to send a quick text. Probably to Markovich.
Maeve grinned up at him. “Oh, she definitely is. Because there is nothing he wouldn’t do for her and that makes her extremely powerful.”
They heard the front door close and she turned as Isaiah and Sampson came in. Isaiah walked straight over to her. He frowned at Gray, but crouched in front of her.
“Are you all right, Maeve?”
Leaning forward, she hugged him. “I am. I’m fine. I promise.”
Gray drew her back against him. Silly man was so possessive.
“This is Gray,” she told him. “Gray, this is my friend, Isaiah.”
Both of them nodded at each other.
“Steve sent me the camera feed,” Sampson told them, looking up from his phone. “Said he didn’t look at it as he’s off to his golf game.”
“Good. I can go through it.” Isaiah stood, shaking his head. “Can’t believe I didn’t think to get you to ask the neighbors about their camera feeds.”
