“The naughty cavity fairy doesn’t come when you have your period, either. Don’t you know that, Daddy?”

“Strangely enough, I’ve had little experience with periods.”

She got into bed, snuggling back against Brody who spooned around her. He kissed her neck lightly.

The Fox stood there and watched them. His two precious babies. He’d raze the whole world just to see them smile. To know they were safe.

And here they were in his bed. Where they belonged.

“Come on, Daddy. Come to bed.” She patted the space next to her. He got into bed, and she snuggled against him, resting her head on his chest. Reaching over, he grabbed her pacifier, offering it to her. He kept one just like hers in each bedroom. She took hold of it with a hum of pleasure.

“Nighty-night, Daddy, Brody-bear.”

He’d never thought he’d feel this.

Totally complete.

Safe.

Cozy.

Warm.

Autumn opened her eyes, glancing around. She sucked on her pacifier. Where was she? There was a low, throbbing pain just below her tummy.

She had her period?

Memories filtered back as she looked around the room.

The Fox’s bedroom.

Where was he?

Sitting up, she opened her mouth to yell for him when he came out of the closet, dressed in a dark T-shirt and jeans. His presence immediately calmed her.

“Morning, Bunny.”

“Morning,” she said shyly. Brody snorted and rolled over, flinging an arm out and whacking her in the stomach.

“What? What’s happening?” He sat up with a groan. “I can’t see.”

“You need your glasses, silly.” She reached over him to grab them off the nightstand. And that’s when she realized how wet it was under her. Drawing up the blanket, she stared down at herself with a gasp.

Crap.

Her period was so heavy that she’d gotten blood on the sheets.

“What’s wrong?” Brody asked, reaching out to grab his glasses.

“Nothing,” she said quickly.

“Bunny,” the Fox said warningly, stepping toward her. “What is it?”

“I just got a bit of blood on the sheets. I’ll clean them up, I promise.”

The Fox blinked at her. Then he turned to Brody. “I don’t understand. She’s acting like there’s something wrong, but I can’t work out what it is.”

Brody gave her an understanding smile. “I’m guessing she’s just a bit embarrassed. But she doesn’t need to be.”

“Embarrassed? Why? We all have blood.” The Fox drew back the blankets.

She squeaked. “Yes, but yours doesn’t come out of your cock.”

“It could. But then there would be something seriously wrong,” the Fox replied as he picked her up and set her beside the bed. “It’s just blood, baby girl. Nothing to be worried about.”

Brody climbed out of bed, then he and the Fox whipped the sheets off the bed.

“I can do that!” she protested. They shouldn’t have to clean up her mess.

The Fox turned to her. “Bunny, if anyone has expertise getting out blood stains, I think it’s me.”

Well, she guessed that was true.

“I just . . . you don’t think it’s gross?”

“I’m in the wrong job if I think blood is gross.” He winked, then put the sheets down to cup her face between his hands. “There is nothing you could say or do that I would find gross. Understand? I want to take care of you in all ways.”

He could be so sweet and sometimes really clueless.

“I have to go check on some things, are you going to be all right here for a while?”

No.

Don’t be silly.

“I’ll stay,” he said, obviously picking up on her response.

“No, Foxy.” She shook her head. “You have things you have to do. And the sooner you deal with everything the better, right?”

“You’ll both be okay?” he asked.

“We’ll be fine,” Brody told him. “We can entertain ourselves for a while.”

The Fox eyed her.

She forced herself to smile. “I promise not to do too many experiments while you’re out.”

He gave her a stern look. “No experiments.”

She pouted. “Fine, Daddy.”

“I won’t be long and if you need anything, call me. And I have a surprise to show you once I get home.”

A surprise? She didn’t always like surprises.

“It’s a good surprise.” He kissed her lightly.

Shoot! She probably had morning breath.

“Take a shower. Eat breakfast. Help yourselves to anything. I’ll put these in the washer before I leave.”

Moving to Brody, he kissed him as well before leaving the room.

Immediately, a weird feeling filled her tummy.

Silly Autumn. He’s coming back.

Brody came over, turning her to face him. “You okay?”

“I’m . . . getting there. Think I just need some time to wrap my head around all of this.” The feeling of being trapped tried to steal the breath from her lungs.

Don’t think about it.

“I’ll run you a bath. Then make you some breakfast.”

Yeah. A bath was definitely in order. And maybe by the time she’d finished, the Fox would be back and this strange feeling would disappear.

The weird feeling only grew. Autumn knew she was acting crazy.

“Tutu, come eat something. Please?” Brody asked.

“I thought he’d be back by now. Where is he?” She paced up and down, chewing on her thumbnail.
