“Maybe.”

What the fuck. “No ‘maybe’ about it.”

Rez blew him a kiss. “You just want to get out of wearing that cute-assed outfit. Your ass looked so damn fiiiiiine.”

“I know I look damn good in that shit. I just don’t want to waste my time or the task force’s.”

Crew grinned. “I’ll take it into consideration.”

“You’re such a dick.”

“I’ve been called much worse,” the task force leader stated.

“No shit. By me.”

“And me,” Decker added.

“And definitely me.” Rez elbowed Finn. “Who was the chick with long dark hair and the awesome fucking tits wrapped up in leather and lace talking to your girl?”

Your girl. He mentally sighed. “Sapphire. She’s the hostess. She works both the front lobby and the customers on the floor.”

“Damn. She can work me over anytime. She do private lap dances?”

“How the fuck would I know? Ask her, not me. I’m not an employee here, remember?”

“Ask your future girlfriend.”

“Future fake girlfriend.”

Decker bumped his shoulder against Finn’s and said with all seriousness, “Hey, you stuff a sock down there or something?”

Or something. “Nope. That’s just me in a relaxed state,” he lied.

“So, you’re a show-er not a grower.”

“No, I’m a show-er and a fucking grower. Some of us are just naturally blessed like that.”

Rez hooted and pointed to his nose. “Something’s growing and it’s not your dick, liar.”

“Don’t be a hater because all you have is a tiny gherkin while I have a big fat dill pickle.” Finn grabbed his crotch over his jeans and shook it. “You’re a snack while I’m a fucking meal. If you haven’t heard that redheads are hung and you’d like proof, I’m willing to show you. Warning, you might need therapy afterward.”

Decker snorted.

“We already had an eyeful of your package.” Crew jerked his chin toward the exit. “You two head out and grab our phones. Need to jaw with Little Orphan Annie here for a second. I’ll meet you out in the parking lot.”

Once Rez and Decker were gone, Finn asked, “What’s up?”

Crew’s expression turned grim. “We’re not going to be able to pay her as a CI.”

Finn scraped a hand along his jawline. “I thought you got it approved already.”

“I did. But I’ve got to say, I’m damn glad we crashed the party tonight. I watched her. I also watched you. Between seeing what she looks like and knowing you too fucking well, I’m sure as fuck you aren’t going to be able to resist at least trying, brother.”

“Are you saying I don’t have any control?”

“I know what you like and she’s exactly what you go for. You’re going to do your best to hit that. Even if she ends up being a quick bang, it’s too much of a risk for the investigation and that’s a gamble I don’t want to take. If we put her on the payroll and you two hook up, that has the potential to fuck us.”

“The money was supposed to sweeten the deal, Crew. She wants out of here.”

“Yeah, you already said that. But the money she’d get wouldn’t even make a dent for what she’s trying to do, brother. You know it’s not some windfall. We’re talking fucking peanuts.”

Finn ground a hand against the back of his neck at this change of events. It might not be a lot of money but it was a little extra she could tuck away to put toward her dream. And her escape.

“So, from what I saw tonight, my gut’s saying this is a no-fucking-go. But that doesn’t mean we still can’t use her assistance. We’ll keep the fake boyfriend angle, if she’ll agree to that. Aaaand you’re going to pull out all the stops to convince her into being a cooperating witness.”

He stared at the DEA agent. “I’m not sure helping to take down the Demons will be enough motivation for her to put herself in that kind of danger, Crew.”

“All she has to do is keep her eyes open and report shit she sees to you. Then when you’re here in the club under the guise of her boyfriend, you’ll know what to look for. If you play that role right, we might not need her to testify as a witness at all. Only you.” Crew slapped him on the back. “C’mon, Prince Harry, you’re an expert at sweet-talking the ladies. Just do your thing. Maybe tempt her with your big dill pickle.”

With a smirk, Crew headed out.

Finn stood there for a second, considering this change of plans and how to rework what he originally planned to say to convince Mel.

He’d have to just wing it.

With a muttered, “Fuck,” he headed backstage to find her.

She studied the outline of Danny’s profile. She couldn’t make out the fine details of his chiseled face since the only light in the vehicle came from the halogen spotlights attached to the rear of the building.
