I blushed.

“You stand before me.” His voice was a rough whisper. “And you are a vision more magical than the most beautiful sunrise, and I. . .I find myself lost.”

I didn’t know what to say.

No one had ever talked to me this way.

Then, before I could even comprehend what was happening next, Lei’s strong arms were around me, scooping my body up in one swift, effortless motion.

I shrieked. “Lei!”

My heart pounded against my rib cage as I found myself cradled against his hard, muscular chest. His strength was impressive, and his grip firm and secure.

“Lei, what are you—” I started, but the rest of my sentence was lost as he broke into a run, carrying me with an ease that was astonishing.

“Ah!” I chuckled.

The world blurred around us as he raced towards the stream.

In mere seconds, we reached the edge of the water.

Thank God, he slowed down. I thought we might dive into the shallow stream and break all our bones. Instead, he quickly stepped into the stream and trudged forward.

“You are crazy!”

Ignoring me, he eventually had us in the water. The abrupt change from heated rush to calming tranquility left my head spinning.

I gasped.

Cool water lapped at my skin and then enveloped my whole body. It was soothing and invigorating.

His movements shifted to gentle as he slowly waded into the stream.

Once I got myself together, I couldn’t help but ask, “What the hell was that about?”

“What?”

“The whisking me up and racing us to the edge.”

“I had to rush us in.” Lei continued to carry us forward.

I laughed. “Did we really have to rush in, though?”

“We did because. . .” His gaze fell down to my breasts. “My body was overheating, and my cock was about to get me in trouble.”

“But I like trouble.” I bit my bottom lip.

He grunted and tightened his hold.

In the center, the stream seemed to turn more into a river. The surface of the water sparkled under the sunlight.

“Fair warning. We’re entering the deep end.” Lei’s voice cut through the soft lull of the river. His breath brushed against my ear. “Are you ready?”

I cast him a sideways glance while the corners of my lips twitched into a smirk. “Should I be worried?”

He let out a rich, deep chuckle. The sound vibrated through his chest, and for a moment, I allowed myself to revel in the pleasureful sound.

I’m so damn glad he is able to relax right now.

I was finding that I really enjoyed seeing him happy and in a playful mood.

Once he stopped laughing, he winked. “Trust me.”

And, I did.

In a fluid motion, Lei let me go.

Oh. Fuck.

Suddenly free, I felt like an offering to the water’s embrace. It tugged at me and was a playful yet powerful pull that began to draw me under.

Okay. Okay. Don’t you drown or anything.

But instead of the usual clawing fear I might’ve experienced, my heart echoed with a wild, exhilarating sensation of liberation. Maybe it was because Lei remained in front of me, watching in such a protective manner. My feet bobbed beneath the water’s surface. My arms spread out to the sides, keeping me upright.

“There you go.” Lei smiled. “The trick is to not fight the water but to let it carry you around.”

I chuckled. “Be one with the water?”

“Exactly.”

My body moved in sync, swaying with the currents’ rhythm.

He’s right. This is cool.

There, I surrendered.

Completely untamed and unbound.

Look at me.

Instantly, I imagined what my sisters would think if they saw me now, completely bare and immersed in this foreign river. Chloe probably would have let out a scandalized gasp and then whined about how I would have never let her do the same thing. Surely, Jo would have cheered me on yet thought that I was definitely hoeing for something. Then there was TT who would have been on the ground pointing and giggling.

The image of my sisters’ reactions was so ludicrous that a chuckle escaped me, causing a few bubbles to rise to the surface.

Lei watched me with a curious expression.

Damn. I miss them.

But I also knew that this break from them was exactly what I needed. A wild adventure, a release of pent-up frustrations, and a taste of passion with Lei that was as untamed as the river around me.

Damn. . .what a fucking week?!

A deeper laugh bubbled up from within me, a burst of pure joy. The sound echoed into the stillness, ricocheting off the surrounding trees. Maybe it even punctured the serenity of our secluded spot.

I bet that in the quiet camp nearby, Lei’s men perked up at the sound with curious eyebrows raised.

Thinking of Lei’s men, brought me back to Duck.

My nerves flared.

How could I have forgotten?

I widened my eyes. “Oh. We have to talk about Duck—”

“We don’t.” That neutral expression slipped back fast over his face. I was soon learning that it was the Mountain Master mask.
