I reach out to run my fingers through the thick, soft fur. As my hand glides over his back, it feels like I’m touching pure power.

Gabe huffs softly, and a low, rumbling sound emerges from his throat—a sound that could easily pass as a purr. He leans into my palm, rubbing his massive head against my hand, and my heart flutters at the intimacy of the moment. He’s not just a wild animal; he’s my Gabe, my eternal soulmate.

He steps closer, and the heat radiating off him wraps around me like a cloak, engulfing me in a snuggly warmth. I never thought I’d feel so safe, so at peace, standing before a polar bear that could easily crush a car but is instead leaning into me like I’m the anchor tethering him to reality. There’s something so incredibly mesmerizing about this moment.

“God, you’re magnificent,” I find myself whispering.

He tilts his head, the intensity of his gaze locking onto mine, a feral spark of recognition shining through those deep hazel eyes. We’re connected in a way that transcends speech.

“I’m glad you approve, sweetheart.” His words whisper through my mind. Darn. It’s going to take a while for me to get used to that little trick.

He butts his head against my palm again, urging me to keep those gentle strokes going, and I can’t help but smile as I run my hand along his neck and across his powerful back, feeling the muscles ripple beneath his thick fur. It’s both thrilling and intimate and a part of me is addicted to this feeling, wanting to stay lost in this moment forever.

“Would you give me a ride?”

“Climb up, sweetheart.” He doesn’t even hesitate.

That playful challenge ignites something reckless within me, and before I even think twice, I steady myself, finding my balance as I swing a leg over his back. As I settle into place, my girly bits throb, but I’m determined to enjoy this time with my mate.

“Alright, let’s see what you’ve got, big guy,” I call out, playfully testing the waters.

He slowly turns and trots off through the back yard, and I can feel the power of his movements beneath me. There’s something exhilarating about holding on to him as he ambles across the snow-covered ground.

Chapter 9

Gabe

I wake up to the soft glow of dawn filtering through the curtains, stretching my arms above my head as I let out a contented sigh. Everything is fucking perfect. Louisa is sprawled out next to me, looking like a goddess tranquilly sleeping, cocooned in those soft flannel sheets. Just the sight of her sends a rush through me, a blend of love and desire, and I know I’ll never get enough of her.

I can’t help but take a moment to admire her. The way her hair spills across the pillow, framing her face like a halo, and how her lips curve ever so slightly, almost teasing me in her dreams. It’s a worthless endeavor to try to think about anything else. She’s completely consumed my mind twenty-four hours a day since the moment I first saw her.

Every muscle in my body feels like it’s stretching out of hibernation, waking up to the delicious reality that she’s mine forever. The thought of what we are to each other, of the bond we’ve forged, sends a thrill through my entire being.

I sit up and glance at the clock. It’s way too fucking early for most folks, but this is my favorite part of the day. I stretch again, cracking my neck as I contemplate what we’ll do today since it’s our day off. Then my nose perks up as my inner polar bear wakes up and stretches under my skin. “She smells sweeter than honey today”, he growls in my head. He’s right. Her innate delicate scent is slightly different. There are new spicy undertones floating in the air. My heart races as I inhale deeply, trying to process what’s happening here.

I lean over, unable to suppress my curiosity, and gently nuzzle my face against her delicate throat. Her skin is warm beneath my cheek, and the scent envelops me, igniting something deep inside. It’s intoxicating, the mixture of her usual sweetness blended with a new, earthy richness that sends my mind spiraling.

The realization hits me like a freight train, and suddenly everything around me vanishes. She’s carrying my child. I pull back, blinking as I stare at her peaceful face, trying to wrap my head around the whirlwind of happiness crashing through me. I’ve been dreaming about this moment since my mate walked into my life.

“Louisa,” I murmur gently, but she just snuggles deeper into her pillow, blissfully unaware of the seismic shift happening within me.

Knowing she needs her rest, I slip out of bed, careful not to disturb her, and pace the short distance to my kitchen. My heart hammers like it’s about to burst through my chest as a swell of excitement mixed with an overwhelming urge to protect and nurture fills my thoughts.
