Hunny bunny,
I went out to get coffee and donuts. Don’t worry, I took Jason with me.
Love you, H.
I’m going to spank her ass for sneaking out while I was dead to the world. I grab my phone and dial her number. When it rings several times without her answering, my earlier worry comes back, so I dial Jason’s number and get the same goddamn results.
Unable to ignore the bad feeling rising up my spine, I dial Marco. “Please don’t tell me you need instructions,” he answers.
“Hunter is gone.” I barely manage to squeeze the words out past the lump in my throat.
“What the fuck?” my wife’s uncle roars. “How did you lose her on your goddamn honeymoon.”
“I woke up and found a note.” I read him the note and hear him sigh on the other end of the line.
“Dumbass,” he growls. “She’s just out getting donuts.”
This asshole doesn’t understand. I take a deep breath, realizing my terror has me babbling like an idiot. I force myself to calm the fuck down so I can explain the situation effectively. “I tried to call both Hunter and Jason, and neither of them is answering.”
“Give me a minute.” Marco grasps the gravity of the situation. I rush to the room and throw on clothes while he talks to someone on the other end of the line. “Both their trackers are off.” Terror unlike anything I’ve ever experienced in my life roars through my soul. I can’t fucking survive without my girl. “I’m on my way to your apartment.” Marco reassures me, “We’ll fucking find my niece.” He has to be right. There’s no other option for me.
After what feels like years, Marco storms into the apartment. “I have all my available men out searching, and I’m getting someone to pull all the security videos in the area.” I see the worry shining in his eyes and want to scream as pain slices through me.
“We have to find her.” I sit on the edge of the sofa and run my hand down the back of my neck. “We have to,” I chant repeatedly, trying to make the universe listen to my pleas.
“One of my men got a call,” Marco roars. “Come on.” As I follow him out the door, I pray I’m going to return with my wife. If not, I’m going to tear this fucking city apart until I find my little love.
We race down a side street, and Marco orders me, “When we get there, I’m going to try to find out what in the fuck is going on. Stay in the goddamn car.” This asshole has no idea.
There’s no way I’m going to sit in the car while my girl is in danger. We pull up behind a mom-and-pop grocery store. “The fuck I will,” I growl and hop out to follow him around the side of the building.
My heart nearly explodes from the relief coursing through my body when I see Hunter huddled up in a blanket while several of Marco’s men surround her. Forgetting about Marco and his goons, I rush over and pull her into my arms. “Are you okay?” I run my hands over every inch of her body, reassuring myself she’s alive and in one piece.
“Yes.” My wife sniffs and tucks her curvy body next to mine. “But I want to kick that big jerk’s butt.” She’ll have to stand in line behind me. I plan on tearing the motherfucker a new asshole.
“Tell me what happened,” Marco demands. When I glance up, I notice his pale complexion for the first time. Now that the red haze has cleared, I can see clearly. My wife’s abduction scared the shit out of her uncle.
I hug my wife close as she recounts what happened after she left the apartment this morning. “I wanted to surprise Brendan with breakfast in bed, so I texted Jason and asked him to come with me to the donut shop down the road.” Hunter swallows, and I nearly roar at the look of devastation shining from in her eyes. “It was a normal day until Jason insisted on driving. He drove right past the shop and kept going.”
Marco curses under his breath as my wife continues. “I asked him to stop and he just seemed to lose his freaking mind. He kept going on and on about me betraying him.” That motherfucker. “I realized he was going off the deep end and decided to play along until I could find a way to escape.” My wife explains that she asked to stop at the little grocery store to use the restroom. Dumbass made the mistake of taking his eyes off her for a few seconds. The next thing he knew, my wife had picked up a gallon-sized can of vegetables and slammed it down on his head.
