His eyes darken with excitement and I don’t pretend that he isn’t fully aware of the cuff around his wrist despite not having reacted to it. “And what’s that?”

“You’ve gotta catch me first.”

His eyes blaze with the challenge, and as my heart bursts with a strange mix of fear and excitement, I take off like lightning, knowing those handcuffs won’t keep him down for long.

I bolt through the front door, sprinting faster than I have in my life, swallowing the laughter that threatens to burst out of me. I’ve never been so desperate and hungry for someone, only to run at the very last second. I could play this game a million times in my life, but there’s only one man on this planet capable of actually catching me, and that man is Reaper.

He’s the hunter, and I’m the prey. And this just became the most exciting game I’ve ever played.

My feet are silent against the ground despite my frantic sprint through the holiday resort. I bypass the pool and the tennis courts while keeping off the main roads, knowing that my hunter would already be out on the streets, tracking my every step.

My heart races as the adrenaline pulses heavily through my veins, and despite knowing that the world’s deadliest man is hot on my heels, I can’t seem to wipe the grin off my face.

The way this man is going to fuck me tonight . . . shit.

I need to focus on trying to evade him first, though, if I were a smart woman, I wouldn’t put too much effort into it. After all, my ultimate goal is to get caught and punished for being such a brat, but I can’t hand him the win. That’s too easy. He’s already told me once that he likes to work for his kills, and I don’t suppose that this would be any different. He likes the challenge, and that’s exactly what I plan to give him.

Reaching the boundary line of the holiday resort I make quick work of the fence, launching myself right over it before landing in a ridiculous crouched pose to gain my balance. Then, without a moment to waste, I sprint back into action.

I dart through the streets, not daring to look back. I don’t doubt he’s already close, but for now, my only focus is to put distance between us. I stick to the shadows, the darkness my only ally tonight. The streets are deserted, and despite how desperately I need him to catch me and have his wicked way with me, I’m not about to have him fuck me in a dirty alley behind a grocery store. I want this to be perfect, and with that in mind, I take a sharp right, heading toward the biggest tourist location Blue Springs offers—the lake.

Moving closer toward the lake, my heart races for a million different reasons, but the way chills begin creeping over my skin, I realize he’s closing in on me. The hunter has found his prey, but is he fast enough to capture her, or will she evade him?

“You can’t run from me, Little Siren,” that deep, alluring voice calls from behind me, sending shivers shooting down my spine and making me realize he’s a lot closer than I realized.

Unable to help myself, I glance back over my shoulder and see Reaper casually strolling behind me as though he hasn’t even broken a sweat, but that’s not possible. I feel as though I’ve run a marathon, and I realize that I didn’t even stand a chance, but the smirk on his lips suggests he enjoyed it all the same.

I turn around and start walking backward with a shit-eating grin across my face, noticing the handcuff still dangling from his wrist. “From where I’m standing,” I call back. “It looks like I can.”

Reaper’s gaze narrows, and when he breaks into a run, a squeal tears from deep in my chest. I stumble over my feet as I frantically turn my ass around and bolt toward the lake. A laugh bubbles from my throat, and I do what I can to keep pushing myself faster, but let’s be honest, I’m more than ready for this man to catch me.

I’ve never been more excited in my life and just as my feet finally reach the water, a strong arm locks around my waist, lifting me off my feet. “You really think you could evade me, Little Siren?”

A stupid laugh tears out of me, and before I know it, I’m flipped around, my chest pressed against his and my legs wrapped securely around his waist, more than capable of feeling the whole outline of his cock pressed firmly against my core. “No,” I admit, slowly reaching for my black cami and pulling it over my head. “But it proved just how far you’re willing to go to have me.”
