“You feel that?” Nate asks as he languidly pushes in and out of me, stopping each time he bottoms out for several seconds before pulling back and then thrusting back in.
“Feel what?”
“Me inside of you…”
“It feels good,” I moan.
“Of course it does.” He licks the seam of my lips. “Because your body was made for me, and if I have it my way, I’m going to spend the rest of my life inside you.”
His mouth captures mine, and while no more words are spoken, Nate shows me just how much he loves our bodies together as he makes love to me until we’re both moaning each other’s name when we find our orgasms.
When he pulls out, instead of lying next to me to catch his breath, he picks me up, bridal-style, and walks us into my bathroom, setting me on the counter so he can turn the water on. Then, he lifts me into the shower and sets me on my feet, where he insists on cleaning me head to toe while I stand there and enjoy the way he takes care of me.
“I want to go away with you,” he says once we’re both out of the shower and in towels. “Being away from you felt like hell. And then with the scare…I just want to spend some time with you.”
I wrap my arms around his neck, my heart pounding in my chest because I’ve never felt as loved and cherished as I do with Nate. He has a million things going on, yet all he wants is to spend time with me.
“I would love that.”
chapter twenty-seven
NATE
“Oh my God! Look at how adorable this is!” Paige laughs as she lifts up a onesie that reads Plot Twist with an open book underneath it.
We’ve spent the weekend at my parents’ vacation house in Southampton, just the two of us. Because I’m always so busy with work, I rarely take the time to fly to the East Coast to enjoy the house, but I figured it would be the perfect getaway for Paige and me.
It’s nine thousand square feet, it has a pool and Jacuzzi in the backyard, and it backs up to a private beach. While Paige loves the amenities, her favorite part of the trip seems to be the shops. Now that we know the baby’s gender, she’s started to shop for clothes, and even though shopping is probably my least favorite thing to do, I love watching the way her face lights up every time she finds another adorable outfit.
“That’s cute,” I tell her, taking it and adding it to the basket of stuff she’s already picked out.
She’s browsing the rest of the baby clothes when her phone chirps with an incoming message. She stops to check it, and then she looks up at me with a glare.
“What?” I ask, my stomach dropping.
This weekend has been damn good, filled with delicious food, great conversation, and amazing sex, and the last thing I want is for it to be ruined.
“Why didn’t you tell me your birthday is next weekend?”
“What?” I repeat.
She turns the phone around, and I read the text she just received…from my mother.
Joanne
Hey, Paige! I don’t know if Nathan told you, but his birthday is on Saturday, and we usually celebrate it here, taking him to his favorite steakhouse. I would love it if you came to Dallas with him. We miss you and would love to spend time with you.
I scroll up and see this isn’t the first text my mom’s sent her. There’s actually several. Many of them asking how Paige is doing. There’s one from Paige, sharing the ultrasound pics showing that we’re having a boy. I, of course, already shared that info with my family as soon as we found out since Paige had said it was fine to do so, but I had no idea she’d been texting with my mom.
“You’ve been texting with my mom?”
“Umm…yeah,” she says sheepishly. “She gave me her number when we visited, and after I texted her to thank her for a wonderful weekend, we continued to text. I hope that’s okay.”
“Of course it is,” I say. “I love that you’re comfortable with her enough to text with her.”
“We talk on the phone too,” she admits. “She’s so sweet, and she reminds me a lot of my mom,” she says, squeezing the fuck out of my heart. “I miss her so much, and with the baby coming, it’s been nice, being able to talk to her. She’s so excited about the baby.”
“I’m glad you have her.” I pull her into my arms and drop a quick kiss to her pillow-soft lips. “My family loves you almost as much as I do.”
“Why didn’t you tell me it’s your birthday?” she asks again.
“It honestly slipped my mind. Between the shitstorm with the hotel and you being in the hospital and then us going away, I haven’t thought about it.”
