“Yes, vampire,” Nolan said. The pale man seemed to lose what little color he had in his face as he inched closer to Sky.

Moon jumped in, wrapping his arms around Chen. The vampire’s eyes widened at his possessive move, but he also didn’t attempt to free himself. If anything, some of the muscles in his lean frame relaxed.

“He’s one of the good vampires, and from now on, he’s allowed to bite only me,” Moon announced.

“Is that so?” Chen whispered, making heat rise to Moon’s ears, but he didn’t care. Yes, they had a lot of shit to figure out, but Moon was staking his claim now. His vampire wasn’t allowed to stick his fangs into anyone else unless it was an emergency.

Nolan huffed a laugh and extended his hand to Chen. “Sorry about that. Had a few unpleasant experiences with vampires. It’s made me cautious. It’s good to meet you.”

Chen shook Nolan’s hand. “Your caution is wise. My kind can be very dangerous to humans. But Moon is correct; I am no threat to you, so long as you are no threat to mine.”

“So…no offense,” Sky drawled, his face scrunching up in a wince, “but you both smell like a slaughterhouse.”

Moon stared at his friend. “Gee. Thanks.”

Not that they could deny it. Dried blood from the fae encounter and their own wounds still covered them.

Sky pushed on, ignoring Moon’s sarcasm like a fucking trooper. “How about I set you up with a shower? The spare bedroom is also clean. The sun doesn’t set for another four or five hours. You can get some sleep before I drive you out to your clan.”

“And I will take this one over to my house so he can shower,” Nolan interjected, placing his hand firmly on Sky’s shoulder.

Moon didn’t know who to hug. Not only was his friend offering a shower and a soft bed, but the very smart boyfriend was offering them privacy. He knew he’d always liked Nolan.

With an extra spring in his step, Sky led them upstairs and through the shadowy hallway. He set out clean towels and offered a change of clothes. Anything Sky had was unlikely to fit Chen, though, thanks to their five-inch height difference. Sky was even nice enough to dig out a spare phone charger for them since Chen discovered that his battery was dead and Moon’s was down to a paltry eight percent. Just enough juice to send a quick message to Xiao Dan and the others that they were out of the woods and safe.

As soon as Sky was out of the house, Moon pushed Chen into the bathroom. He grabbed the clothes the vampire peeled off with disgust. Moon wanted to claim that he didn’t ogle Chen’s long, lean muscular form, but really, who was he trying to kid? His eyes ate up every inch of that sexy man. He wanted to kiss, lick, and stroke every bit of him, but that wasn’t going to happen until they were both clean.

In the meantime, he shoved all of their clothes into Sky’s washing machine and dumped an ass-ton of detergent in there. He’d be shocked if the blood and dirt stains came out. Not that it mattered. They needed them clean enough to wear to the clan house. After that, they’d change and burn them.

On his way to the second floor, Moon might have raided Sky’s fridge and pantry for another snack. Okay, so that snack comprised of two sandwiches, half a bag of chips, and some leftover potato salad. It was important to keep his strength up in case that sweet man he was bound to needed a snack of his own.

That thought stopped Moon cold.

He froze halfway up the stairs, his hand gripping the railing so tight his knuckles had turned white.

He’d bound himself to Chen. Their souls were tied together. Forever.

As far as he knew, there was no way to break the thread linking them.

What had he been thinking?

There had been no thought.

After nearly losing Chen to King Ash’s blade, he’d been running on pure desperation and fear. It had been a colossal risk to allow Chen to drink from him in the first place, but it had worked. He’d saved the vampire’s life. There’d been no way he was going to allow anyone to tear the man from his arms so quickly after that. Not even the demon king of the underworld.

But now that they were safe, all his frantic decisions were slamming onto his head, one after another.

What have I done?

He was the last person on the planet to do the settle down with one person thing. Fleeting, shallow friendships and even more fleeting romances filled his entire life. Well, not really romances. Some good, fast, string-free fucks that allowed him to leave without a care the next day. There were very few repeats. Hell, too many of them never got his name, let alone a cell number.
