“How can I dump her ass, Mom? Have you ever thought that she could be carrying my child? I’m in this just as much as she is.”

“So, why not make yourself fall in love with her as well?”

“Don’t be ridiculous. I don’t believe in love.”

“Bullshit, Colt. You know love exists and the only reason you’re being difficult is because she is who she is. Have you ever thought that you’re asking a lot of her? You’re asking her for a great deal of trust, and you are who you are. This swings both ways, and I swear to you, Colt, if she is pregnant, if you ruin this, you better hope it doesn’t spoil my relationship with any future grandbabies.”

His mother hung up. She’d be calling Warden next. Gripping the phone tightly, he closed his eyes and attempted to breathe to ten to calm his nerves.

Kim had always been so passionate. Always. Nothing was going to change that. Rosalie didn’t need to know that he never planned to fall in love with her. What he needed was for her to be on his side.

“Is everything okay?” Rosalie asked.

He turned to see her leaning against the bedroom door, looking so fucking sexy as she’d pulled on one of his t-shirts. “Yeah, everything is good.”

“I was starting to worry that maybe Petal had been eaten by sharks, or had decided to find a job and stay on the cruise or something.”

“Nah, they’re having a great time. Mom was just checking in.”

Rosalie’s cheeks were bright red. “That’s great. Do you want some coffee?”

“What’s the matter?”

“Oh, nothing at all. Just, I don’t know, I’m a little, er…” She stopped and looked back at the bed.

He closed the distance between them, put the phone on the nearest surface, which was a small table in the corner, and he cupped her face. “Talk to me.”

“Oh, it’s nothing.”

“Talk to me,” he said, not wanting any secrets between them.

“It’s stupid.”

“Tell me.”

She rolled her eyes and took a breath. “I’ve never slept with a guy before. You know, shared a bed.” She pressed her lips together. “I told you it was stupid.” She gave a little chuckle and he couldn’t resist that mouth of hers.

Taking possession of her lips, he kissed her, soft at first, getting her used to the feel of him, and then he began to explore, deepening the kiss, having her open up to him. She released a soft moan and it went straight to his dick. Excitement filled him. He wanted to fuck her but they weren’t ready yet. Breaking the kiss, he couldn’t help but place another on the tip of her nose, which did feel a little cold.

Rosalie smiled up at him. “Er, erm, do you, like, want some coffee?” She nibbled the corner of her lip.

“I’d love some.”

“Then I’ll go make some breakfast.”

She pulled out of his arms and he watched her head for the stairs. The shirt she wore went down to mid-thigh, which was such a shame as he’d have loved to see some of her sexy ass.

“It’s a first for me as well,” Colt said.

Rosalie stopped and looked at him. “What is?”

“Waking up next to a woman. I’m not … I don’t do that, like ever.”

“You don’t wake up next to a woman?” she asked, frowning, but with a small smile across her lips.

“Never.”

“Oh,” Rosalie said.

He winked at her and then walked back into his bedroom. He’d already picked up his cell phone on the way past, and he dialed Dirty.

“Don’t be pissed at me,” Dirty said.

“You told her.”

“Do you have any idea how freaking scary that woman is?”

“She’s my mother.”

“Ah, so you do get it.”

“What has she told you to do?” Colt asked.

Dirty growled. “You mean after she made reference to tossing me overboard so a bunch of sharks could eat my ass?”

“Yes.” He couldn’t help but smile. His mother loved shark movies, she couldn’t get enough of them. Even lame ones where no CGI was used.

“I’m to be nice and respectful to Petal, and not get her into bed, or do any of that crap.”

“I need you to distract her. Petal cannot be calling Rosalie, not now.”

“You’re getting somewhere?”

“Yeah, do this.”

“Will do, but please, when they’re writing out my gravestone, tell them to put on it that I was fucking brave till the end.”

Colt hung up and used the bathroom. Afterward, he washed his hands and then stared at his reflection. He wasn’t going to fall for Rosalie. If she fell in love with him, he’d deal with it. If she hadn’t gotten pregnant by the time he dealt with her father, then there might be a divorce. Otherwise, she would know nothing.

He finished brushing his teeth and washed his face with cold water. Stepping out of the bedroom, he smelled the scent of bacon frying and his stomach grumbled.
