“I guess you’re right,” he finally said.

“Hell, some people marry their second cousins, for God’s sake,” I said.

Fox finally relaxed a little. “Holy shit, I can actually drive again,” he said as the traffic in front of him finally started to move again. We made our way down the highway, and I could start to see the downtown Denver skyline.

“Fuck yes,” I said. “I actually loved camping, don’t get me wrong, but I’m glad to be out of the forest.”

“I am too,” Fox said.

“Go easy on yourself tonight,” I told him. “Enjoy the place. And don’t worry about stupid small stuff like me, okay?”

He gave me a mischievous glance. There was the Fox I knew, coming back out to play.

“I mean, it wasn’t just about you.”

I cocked my head to one side. “What do you mean?”

He shrugged one shoulder. “It’s not like you’re the only hot guy I’ve ever done something with.”

A thrill shot through my body. Nicholas Fox had just described me as a hot guy. I knew I was hot—I was proud of how I looked, and I loved when people complimented me on it. But I sure as hell never expected to hear it from him.

And I definitely never expected to like it so much.

“Right, you told me about your ‘totally-straight’ blow jobs,” I said, using air quotes. I tried to ignore the feeling like I was floating on air after his compliment, which was better than ten Instagram comments combined.

“I mean, at the time I was still straight, for the most part,” he said. “But now, I’m not so sure.”

“Oh my God,” I said. “Fox, if you think you’re interested in guys, then you definitely have to let me play Cupid for you.”

“Fuck no,” he said. “I mean it, I don’t want to date. But I’m just exploring things.”

“Your sexuality,” I said.

“Yeah.”

“That’s awesome,” I said softly. “God, there is so much about you I never could have imagined. In high school you always just seemed so…”

“Self-obsessed?” he offered. “Aloof? Prickish?”

“Don’t get me wrong, you still drive me crazy about ten times an hour,” I said. “But I guess I just never really knew the real you.”

“And now you know I’m a mess who is probably just a little bit bisexual,” he said, popping his sunglasses back on as the highway weaved toward the sun.

“Just like so many of my other friends,” I said, reaching out to squeeze his shoulder. “I guess you fit right in.”

When we arrived at the hotel, I walked in through the automatic front doors like I was walking into the gates of heaven, spreading my arms wide and twirling around as soon as I got in. I was met with cool air, beautiful tall ceilings, chandeliers, and the promise of a really good night.

Fox was right behind me, walking Cocoa on her leash. Mom and Greg had made sure that any place we booked for the trip was dog friendly, and already I spotted two other dogs in the big lobby.

“Naturally, Sam’s favorite part of an RV trip is the part where he gets to stay in a fancy hotel,” Mom said, ruffling my hair as she walked over toward the big, marble check-in counter.

“I know what I like,” I said. A man walked by pulling a suitcase, the front of his shirt halfway unbuttoned. I made no secret of staring at him as he walked past. “And that is something I like very much.”

Fox glanced up, suddenly interested in watching the guy as he walked over toward the elevators. “Oh yeah?” Fox asked. “You like blonde dudes?”

“What? No, I am completely haircolor agnostic. Or a haircolor slut, whatever you want to call it,” I said. “I just liked the way he had his shirt unbuttoned.”

Logan giggled from behind us.

“Really? You like that?” Fox said. “I always thought it looked kinda cheesy.”

“A little,” I said. “But also hot.”

I liked that Fox was apparently starting to take more notice of men. It was fun to know he might be not as straight as he thought, and to be honest, it was starting to make me flex and pose a little more when I thought his eyes might be on me.

Sure, there was no way that would do anything but annoy the hell out of Fox, but it gave me some small satisfaction knowing that even if I was his annoying stepbrother, he might find some aspect of my body objectively attractive.

After we checked in to our suite and everybody showered off, we headed to the Italian restaurant on the top floor of the hotel. It was the best food I’d had in days, and an excuse to wear the one nice collared shirt I’d brought with me on the trip.

Mom, Greg, Jim and Laura had booked a bus trip to a brewery in town, and they headed off on their own after the sun set. That left me, Fox, and Logan kicking around in the gigantic suite, all by ourselves.
