“I’m well aware of that,” I said sharply. “Don’t worry—I’ll be there.”
Then I left the table with my guys behind me and the entire Court whispering and watching with wide eyes as we exited the Banquet Hall once more.

“This way, my Lady,” Krynn said, taking the lead as we left the Banquet Hall. “The Public Quenching will be held in the Palace Theater. There should be costumes and harnesses as well as phalluses to choose from in the Queen’s private dressing area,” he added.
“Wait—they have a whole theater for this kind of thing?” I demanded as I followed him. “I mean, for Public Quenchings?”
“That’s not the only thing the theater is used for—the Palace has a troupe of actors that put on regular plays,” Sel remarked. “But the Queen does put on Public Quenchings from time to time—just to prove to the people that her Thirst is still under control.”
“I think Mordren was betting that you’d balk at doing one because you weren’t raised with our customs,” Krynn said. He raised an eyebrow at me. “I’m assuming this isn’t the kind of thing that humans generally do to each other?”
“Well, certainly not the biting part,” I said. “As for the other, you can watch porn for that. But I’ve never done it myself.”
“Don’t worry—we’ll help you,” Sel promised. “Look—the theater is just up ahead.
He was pointing down a long, marble corridor that ended in a set of broad doors flanked with golden pillars on either side. The golden molding above the doors and pillars was shaped into various masks—happy, sad, angry, excited… They made it clear what the space was for.
Seldarin pulled open one of the heavy wooden doors and I followed him and Krynn into a dim space filled with rows upon rows of red velvet chairs. There was enough seating for the entire court—at least five or six hundred chairs, I estimated—maybe more. Just the thought of that many people watching what I was about to do was enough to make me feel like my whole face was on fire with embarrassment.
But I told myself again there was no choice—the show had to go on. I had no place in the human world or the “Mortal Realm” as Sel and Krynn called it, anymore. I looked too different and too much had happened for me to go back to that life. I had to lean in to my new role and this was the only way to do it.
I followed Sel and Krynn down the inclined floor which ended at a large wooden stage. A long crimson curtain was drawn all the way down, hiding all but the front or apron of the stage.
“This way,” Sel rumbled and led us up a set of steps to one side of the stage which led us into the vast, shadowy backstage area.
“Looks like it’s already set up for a Public Quenching,” Krynn remarked. “See? They already have the frame.”
Standing in the middle of this darkened area at exactly center stage was a massive wooden X that looked big enough to accommodate even the largest Fae. It was padded with deep blue leather and there were leather straps at all four corners. Directly behind it was a set of wooden stairs that looked adjustable.
“That’s where you’ll be standing, Princess.” Sel pointed to the steps. “Otherwise you’d never be able to reach Krynn.”
“Does that mean you’ll be, uh, strapped to the frame?” I asked Krynn.
He nodded and I saw a hint of the drugged lust in his eyes again—it must be the Needing coming out, I thought.
“Yes, my Lady,” he murmured. “That’s where I’ll be—strapped down so you can fuck me as deeply as you want to.”
I wasn’t at all sure I wanted to fuck him in the first place—deeply or not. But on second thought, I couldn’t deny that look in his eyes affected me. The desire I saw in his half-lidded gaze was catching.
“All right,” I told him. “I’ll, um, do my best.”
“First you have to get dressed and choose a harness and a phallus,” Sel remarked. “Come on—the dressing areas are backstage.”
We left the padded wooden frame at center stage and went to the right. There were a number of wooden doors in a row but the one at the end seemed most likely to be for me. It had the same golden molding around it that the main theater doors had and there was a golden Q on the door.
“This way, my Lady,” Krynn said and the three of us filed into the dressing room. The lighter Fae murmured a word that sounded magical and the whole place was lit with a golden glow.
I looked around. There was a round mirror on one wall and a shelf in front of it with various cosmetics. There was a fine layer of dust on both the shelf and the makeup, indicating that neither had been used in some time. There was also a large wooden cabinet against one wall and a padded bench against another. The floor was carpeted in Royal Purple fur, just like the dressing area by the Quenching Parlor.
