I stopped walking.

Without looking behind them, the elfkin paused too and remained still.

I trembled.

Who is your other queen. . .Nai?

We will discuss that soon.

Sighing, I continued forward with the elfkin.

We made a right and more war machines came into sight.

Terror gripped my heart.

How will these machines take the mages’ powers?

I wish I were there to show you each one.

I looked around, a little relieved that he had confirmed he wasn’t close.

Soul Reaper, is a war machine that feeds on the essence of magic, draining the mages’ powers and leaving them weak and depleted.

Dear Ambi.

The eflkin brought me to the only white tent in the entire camp. Glittering crimson fabric adorned the entrance.

We stopped in front of it.

The Quiet King continued. Frost Weaver, evokes the chilling power of ice and frost. That is for the fire mages.

It would freeze them?

Yes, Seraphine.

I could taste future death and violence on my tongue and I hated the taste. I had wanted to stay out of the whole war, but now. . .I knew I had to warn Ian and Camille. They needed to stop with their thoughts of fighting and run as far as they could.

The Quiet King sliced through my mind. There is no place for them to run anymore, Seraphine. I have the entire mage territory surrounded on all sides.

Get out of my head.

I will not.

The elfkin guided me into the white tent.

With each step, my anxiety intensified.

To my shock, the white tent was more spacious than the Quiet King’s tent. And even more, it was some sort of bathing area, clearly intended for a king.

The interior of the tent was unlike anything I had ever seen. It was vast and dominated by a massive bear-sized tub that stood as a centerpiece. I didn’t know what the material was, but it was clear as water.

Four statues of nude females stood on each side of the tub. They held basins that poured water into the large tub. Meanwhile, the back of the statues were connected to golden pipes that came out of the ground.

A gentle mist rose from the tub.

The elfkin surrounded me and began reaching out to my gown.

I shook my head. “No. I-I can undress myself.”

Let them pamper you, Seraphine.

I don’t want pampering. I just want to find out if you have the three guards.

Then, let them do what I require, and you will know soon.

I couldn’t help but feel like a helpless animal that was being groomed for slaughter. The thought made my stomach churn, but I knew that I had to remain calm and composed if I wanted to make it out of this situation alive.

Sensing my hesitation, the elfkin slowly began to remove my garments again, their touch gentle yet assured. It was as if they were peeling away not only the layers of fabric but also the weight of my captivity.

I seized the opportunity to get a peek at their faces under the thin white veils.

From what I could see, their faces were unlike humans, vampires, and even mages. Their large eyes possessed three pupils, each with a different color—brown, blue, green, and hazel.

Each woman possessed not one, but two small noses, delicately positioned side by side in the center of their faces. To my shock, their double noses were not grotesque or off-putting, but rather an exquisite embodiment of their otherworldly nature.

Their skin, smooth and luminescent, seemed to radiate with an inner glow.

There was an otherness to their beauty, a quality that spoke of ancient secrets whispered through generations.

Once I was completely naked, they guided me to the tub.

I lowered into the warm steamy water.

A sigh escaped my lips.

The water enveloped my body.

And the elfkin worked in harmony, their hands moving with the precision of a well-practiced ritual. They caressed my skin with fragrant oils, each stroke slipping along my body. My muscles relaxed. My hard will to escape softened.

It was all unimaginable and surreal.

The Quiet King’s voice danced into my head. Do you feel like a queen?

I pursed my lips, not wanting to admit that I did. I thought I was doing my best to not let this experience get to me, but the royalness of it all was slowly seeping into my pores anyway.

You do not need to answer, Seraphine.

I closed my eyes.

Even from here, I can hear the lovely symphony of your blood.

Where are you?

You will see soon.

The elfkin poured warm water over my bald head. Some of the lovely, scented liquid streamed down my face and I swore it was washing away the remnants of my former life. Cleansing me of the past.

I breathed in deeply, letting the steam fill my lungs.

The elfkin continued to work their magic on my body, kneading my muscles until they were loose and pliant.

Once I emerged from the tub, the women guided me to a plush velvet chaise that I had not seen earlier. In fact, I wondered if it had been brought in while I was bathing.
