“Okay, I’ll check it out.”

“Good.”

“Please be careful,” I said.

“I will,” he replied and the call came to an end.

I rose and went in search of the library.

It was easy to find mainly because of the huge double doors. They were impossible to miss and the moment I walked in, I began to feel something close to excitement.

He had seriously undersold the grandiosity of the library. Bookcases filled with books lined the walls from the floor to the ceilings while the windows that gave a magnificent view of the lake were equally as huge and elegantly carved.

I didn’t want all the lights on, so I selected a few lamps and after turning them on, turned off the main lights. The space was bathed in golden light and I felt even more motivated to put in some work for the night as Dante had suggested.

I turned on the computer and began to write what came to my head. Twenty minutes later I only had a single word written on the page.

Murder.

I stared at it for a long time. When I couldn’t look at it anymore, I got up and headed over to a nest of sofas in a corner. It was the perfect place for me to relax and think. I put a soft pillow under my head and before I knew it, I had drifted off to sleep.

Chapter 46

Dante

“Ididn’t have the heart to wake her, Sir,” Marie said. “I figured she’d wake up when she was good and ready. Plus, she looked like she really needed the rest.”

I opened the doors and walked in as quietly as I could and saw her curled up like a cat, fast asleep on the couch. The window blinds were open, the room warm and filled with a soothing silence. As I watched her, I felt a sense of great peace fill my chest. She made everything worth it.

Her features were so delicate, that she almost didn't seem real. Her lashes, soft and long, rested on her cheeks, and her nose had a little flush at the tip. And then her lips, so soft, with the bottom one plump and slightly protruding out. I loved kissing her, but right now an image of her lips wrapped around my cock came into my head. There were very few sensations that could compare to her having my cock buried in her face and her looking straight into my eyes.

Unable to stop myself, I brushed her hair out from the sides of her face and she stirred in response.

Then her eyes fluttered open and she was staring directly into my eyes.

“You’re back,” she said sweetly.

I nodded.

“Everything under control?”

“Yeah,” I replied.

She reached forward to touch me affectionately on my arm. “You should get some rest. We can talk later, after you wake up.”

She looked at me and I could tell she was hesitating. “Do you want to have a bath? Afterward, you can fall asleep. It’ll be wonderful.”

“Sure,” I said. “I have to be back in the office in a few hours but a bath and a quick nap sounds great. Join me?”

She smiled shyly at me. “Okay. I guess I could use a bath too.”

We headed straight for my room.

While I undressed, she ran the bath. I watched as she untied the robe she had on, leaving her naked. She hung it on the railing and went over to the tub to sink in.

“It’s really warm and lovely,” she said invitingly.

I pulled away my towel as well and joined her.

I couldn’t remember the last time I had a bath. She was making me slow down and it was strange. Slowing down had never been a consideration in my life. There was no chance for it. From time to time I would need to take short breaks but that was only after the storm had passed. But to slow down in the middle of it? I watched her begin to pull all her hair up and wrap it into a knot on top of her head. Something about the fact she was right here with me, so close … made every other problem seem inconsequential. She was safe. Nothing else mattered.

I couldn’t help but look at the swell of her breasts above the water. We shared a small smile and then her leg began to slightly stroke against my upper thigh under the water.

I kept staring at her and when my hand reached out to stroke her, I realized we were too far apart from each other.

“Come over here,” I said.

“I thought you didn’t want us to spend too long in here?” she said.

“I’ve changed my mind,” I replied.

She moved closer to me.

I held the side of her face gently, slanted my head and kissed her. The kiss was soft and sweet, almost platonic, but when I pulled away and our eyes met I could feel the atmosphere change from lighthearted to one that was incredibly charged and tense. She leaned forward and kissed me, but hers was nothing like mine. It was deep, passionate, even desperate.
