We’d been staring at each other long enough without saying anything, it must have made her feel awkward.

“What?” she asked.

“I’m just checking to see if you’re drooling.”

She sucked in a breath and pretended not to be embarrassed, which she shouldn’t be. She was welcome to ogle me anytime.

“No, sorry.” Her tone turned teasing. “Would you like me to?”

I smirked. “I don’t mind it when my dick is in your mouth.”

She was so goddamn sexy when she got flustered. “Who talks like that?”

“I do.” I chuckled. “And you love it.” I padded toward her. “Come on, Sydney. Let’s get you wet.”

She issued a quiet hiss when I wrapped my damp arms around her, and she squealed in surprise as I lifted, scooping her up. My hands were on her ass, urging her to fold her legs around my hips, and as soon that was done, I carried her to the steps.

I plodded down them quickly, and when the water flooded around her waist, she squirmed and tightened her hold on me.

“It’s cold,” she gasped.

“Then let me distract you.”

I kissed her. I’d meant for it to be sweet and playful, but the second our lips touched, things got serious. I eased us further down into the water as my tongue filled her mouth, and she let out a soft moan of approval.

Water lapped gently at our shoulders, but it did nothing to cool the fire burning inside me. When we’d started this thing, I’d thought we’d fuck a few times and get each other out of our system. But it’d done the opposite.

I only wanted her more.

We floated together, weightless in the water as she was wrapped all around me, her arms rested on my shoulders and our mouths connected. I glided us through the shallow end, going deeper until I could stand and press her back against the side of the pool.

My mouth carved a path down her neck, and as much as I’d liked causing the hickey on her, this time I was more careful. Her head tilted back, resting on the tile edge of the pool, and her breath came and went in rapid, short bursts. I had my hand on one of her tits and the other on her ass, pushing her lower body against mine while I sucked gently on the side of her neck.

“Fuck,” she whispered.

My lips curled into a smile. She didn’t swear that often, so it felt like a treat whenever it happened. I loved making the good girl go bad. Corrupting her. Getting her addicted to me.

Beneath the water, I tugged the cup of her bikini to the side so I could touch her with nothing in my way. Maybe we wouldn’t get completely naked, but just where it counted and I—

“Preston, can I talk to you for a minute?”

The voice was sharp and angry, and came from the other side of the pool, making my heart stop. I spun around, using my broad back to shield her from view, and stared up at the intruder.

Troy’s expression was pissed, but I could tell he was hiding the worst of it from his face, probably for Sydney’s benefit. He stood beside the side gate, which he’d left open when he’d come into my back yard.

Fucking hell. I couldn’t believe my dumb luck.

Since my dad and Cassidy wouldn’t be home, I’d thought Sydney and I would be in the clear. I knew Troy’s girlfriend lived next door, but Erika was never home during the day, so I’d written her off as low risk. Plus, there was a privacy fence around her yard.

But her house was on a slope above ours, which meant she could see some of our pool and deck from her back yard.

Sydney slid out from behind me, her swimsuit back in place, and she moved into the shallow end like she wanted to put platonic space between us. As if Troy hadn’t just caught us making out and this would somehow fool him.

I swam through the water to the ladder and hoisted myself up it, struggling not to look too guilty. I joined him in the shade over by the side of the house, water dripping everywhere as I put my hands on my hips.

“What the hell, man?” His voice was low and angry. “You’re fucking Colin’s sister?”

“It’s not like that.”

His eyes went narrow with disbelief. “Oh. So, you’re saying you haven’t?”

Everything was uncomfortable, from the oppressive heat in the air, to the way my friend stared at me like I was a piece of shit. I rubbed my fingertips on the center of my forehead, trying to find the right words. “I’m saying it’s . . . not just sex.” I didn’t know if she could hear our conversation, but did it matter? I was being honest. “I’m really fucking into her, okay?”
