The beat changed again, but neither one of us moved to leave the dance floor. Somehow, we’d created this magical little bubble that I never wanted to leave. Everything here smelled good and felt good, and I wanted to drown in the sensation of it.

“You know,” Brad said, drawing me close to speak into my ear. “This is good practice.”

I pressed my cheek against his as we moved to the music, his body flush with mine. “What do you mean?”

“If people are going to believe us,” he said, drawing the tips of his fingers down the line of my back. “Then it’s good for us to practice me touching you like this,” he continued.

Tingles erupted under his touch, causing me to gasp lightly. God, why was my body reacting this way? It wasn’t like Brad had never danced with me or held my hand before. But, I supposed he’d never dragged his fingers down my body like that either, and it was innocent. What would it be like if we had to really sell the act and he had to kiss me? How would I react?

“Is this okay?” he asked, his voice low and rough at my ear. He pulled back to gauge my reaction, smoothing his free hand along my cheek and down my neck as we continued to sway to the beat of the music.

“Yes,” I breathed the word, my mind and body warring with itself.

He smiled down at me, his blue-gray eyes almost hooded beneath the mask he wore.

“You should probably kiss me,” I blurted out the words before my mind could come up with a reason to stop them. “I mean,” I continued when his eyes flared wide. “Better here than in a room full of strangers, right? What if I reacted the wrong way and blew our cover?”

“You want me to kiss you?” he asked, almost like he hadn’t heard me right before.

“Unless you weren’t planning on kissing me during the trip,” I answered. “But, if I’m supposed to be your fiancé, I’m guessing kissing will be involved.”

Brad wet his lips, something flickering across his features.

Oh, God, I’d somehow ruined the bubble we’d been in—

He shifted, grabbing my hand and weaving us through the crowd of dancers, not stopping until he’d reached a small alcove tucked under one of the balconies above.

“It’s fine,” I said, my heart racing. “I only meant—”

“You want me to kiss you,” he said again, turning to face me. He walked toward me, and I slowly backed up until my spine kissed the wall. Shadows covered his features, the loud thrum of the music vibrating all around us.

“In the name of practice,” I clarified. “I’d hate to blow your cover during the retreat.”

“Well, then,” he said, stepping into my space. He slid one hand over my waist and around me, drawing me flush against him. “In the name of practice,” he said before slanting his mouth over mine.

I gasped at the first brush of his lips over mine, the sensation like liquid fire shimmering over every inch of my skin. My hands flew to his chest, fisting the fabric of his suit jacket as I arched against him.

He moved his free hand to my cheek, tipping my head back and sweeping his tongue between my lips in a move so effortless it made my head spin. I opened for him, meeting his kiss with an intensity that matched his as he took my mouth in sweet flicks and dominating licks. My body hummed with sensation, all nerves firing and aching for something just out of reach.

Brad shifted against me, slipping his thigh between my legs as he kissed me deeper. Electricity crackled everywhere our bodies touched, my heart fluttering with every curl of his tongue, every touch of his hands on my skin.

Heat pooled between my thighs, the friction from his muscled thigh pressing into me doing all kinds of things to my body. I forgot everything outside of him—his kiss, his touch, the way he was making me breathless. Everything narrowed to how fucking good he felt against me, around me, his mouth crashing against mine in a feverish hunger that had me questioning every kiss before this.

“Brad,” I whimpered into his mouth, unable to hold back the breathy little plea.

He pulled back, his chest rising and falling in time with mine. He studied me for a few seconds, his eyes churning with something I couldn’t place as he moved away enough to give me space to breathe.

“Looks like you reacted just fine,” he teased, grinning down at me.

I bit back a laugh, my mind whirling with what just happened and my body still begging for more. I managed to shrug. “It was all right.”

Brad covered his chest with his hands, feigning injury, then shook his head. “Guess, I’ll have to do better next time.”
