I start the recording again and watch through the small screen as she moves his pillow and finds a leather cuff connected to a chain beneath it.

Sophie gasps in horror, dropping the cuff right where she found it. Her gaze darts to me, her eyes wide and fearful, then she abandons her course of trying to placate me and launches herself off the bed.

Adrenaline surges through my veins as her feet hit the floor and she runs for the door.

It’s a pointless effort since she has to run behind me to get there, and I’m faster than her even if she didn’t.

I toss the camera on the bed and lunge for her, grabbing her around the waist and hauling her back.

“No!” she cries, fighting in earnest to get free. “Let me go. Let me go! Please!”

“Now, Sophie,” I murmur, my arms tightening around her waist as she struggles and claws at my hands. “Be a good girl.”

“Let go of me, you psycho! I’m not letting you tie me up. You’re crazy if you think—”

“You don’t have to let me do anything, pretty girl. But I’m going to tie you up either way.”

“Please,” she says, her voice wobbling with fear. “Silvan, I won’t be able to…”

“Move? Flee?” I finish, running a finger along the curve of her jaw. “Yes, beautiful, I know. That’s the point.”

Since fighting me is getting her nowhere, she turns and looks up at me with those big imploring eyes of hers. “Breathe! Silvan, please. I’ll have a panic attack. I won’t be able to take it.”

I caress the curve of her jaw. “I suggest you remember that next time you think about meeting another man because this is more of a gentle warning than a punishment as far as I’m concerned.”

Her eyes widen. “I am not yours.”

My lips curve up. “I’m afraid we disagree on that point.”

“And I’m afraid that’s an irreconcilable difference in this relationship,” she snaps back.

I smile at her spunk. “Lining up your divorce defense already? We’re not even married yet.”

“Yet,” she mutters in disbelief. “You’re a madman.”

“Perhaps, but I’m your madman.”

“Silvan, don’t you dare,” she says as I retrieve the leather cuff off the pillow.

“You want to know what’s funny? This isn’t even my equipment. The toys I use on you will be, of course. But this rig was already here when I came to check the place out. Your professor has a kinky streak. Are you disappointed you didn’t get to explore it with him?”

“That is not why I came here.”

I believe her, but I have to ruin him for her regardless, just to be safe. “You’re not his first, you know. He has an entire cabinet full of fuck tapes he’s filmed of former students. He may have been interested in making you his latest acquisition, but he’s not like me. He’s not only interested in you. He wouldn’t have kept you.”

Sophie falls silent. Fear of abandonment is a sleeping giant among her issues, so I know I’m drilling into the right stud.

He’s not the only one who understands her mind well enough to fuck with it.

“Maybe you don’t believe me,” I murmur. “You think I’m being jealous and possessive, that I’m only saying this because you might have liked him. But you’re wrong, and whether you like it or not, Sophie, I’m going to protect you.”

“I don’t need protecting,” she says guardedly, yanking at her wrist as I grip it tight and slide the cuff around it.

“You do. From men who want to use and abuse you. From yourself. I don’t know if you know this about yourself, sweetheart, but you have shitty fucking taste in men.”

“Do you hear yourself?” she demands wildly. “You’re the one who wants to use and abuse me. You’re the only one I need protecting from.”

“We both know that’s not true,” I say patiently, securing the Velcro strap, then slipping the leather through the buckle to make it more secure. “There’s predator catnip running through your veins, Sophie. You’re delightful prey to hunt and trap, and if you hadn’t met me, I’m sure your professor wouldn’t have been the last man to notice.”

“I am not prey,” she says, yanking at her wrist.

“I didn’t mean it as an insult,” I assure her, pulling her shirt aside so I can kiss the cute little freckles on the ball of her shoulder. “It takes all sorts to make up the food chain. No need to be ashamed of where you fall on it.”

“You’re a lunatic,” she mutters. “If you think I’m seriously not calling the police after this…”

“You won’t.” I peel her shirt off so she’s down to her bra before I push her onto the bed and wrestle her onto her back. I grab the cuff on the other side and stretch out her other arm. “See, we’re making a sex tape tonight, Sophie, but it’s not really ours. I’m not going to be in it. I spent a little time studying your professor’s previous sex tapes so I could imitate his style. The rest of the world will believe he filmed you here tonight, and I’m not sure if you know this, sweetheart, but our interactions tonight? They haven’t appeared entirely consensual. I’m guessing this next part won’t, either.”
