“You’re so bossy.” He had the audacity to look amused. “Should I just sit here and think about what I’ve done?”

“Or what you haven’t done,” I practically growled. “You’ve got to get a laptop. You can’t write a paper without one.”

I stormed off before he could answer. Twenty yards away, I stopped, pacing under a huge oak tree next to the sidewalk. I had exactly one idea left to try to get Kyle to take his schoolwork seriously. My idea of taking him to study with others inside the union hadn’t been a bad one, but what I really wanted was to bring him to a study group like the one I attended on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Surely seeing how Lucas, Jayden, Roger, and Amanda buckled down and got to work might inspire him to do the same? But we’d never invited anyone new to the group. We’d only stuck with the members who were assigned to our cohort a year ago. Some people had dropped out since then, but no one new had joined.

I shouldn’t ask the others. It wasn’t fair to subject them to someone who might be completely disruptive. And I already owed Lucas and Jayden so much for letting me stay with them. But… I couldn’t think of anything else.

Wish a twinge of apprehension, I sent a message to the group chat asking if I could bring the guy I was tutoring to our meeting tonight.

I leaned against a railing, my eyes scanning the beautiful grounds of the quad while I waited. I let my gaze go in every direction except Kyle’s. Finally, my phone vibrated. Lucas and Roger had said that was okay with them. Amanda asked if he was cute. And Jayden hadn’t answered yet, but he seemed the least likely to mind.

Pocketing my phone, I looked back to where Kyle was seated. At least he hadn’t wandered off. That was something. He looked up when I neared and held out his notebook. Fearing there might be another sketch of a woman with even larger breasts, I was a bit apprehensive at first. But no, he’d added two more bullet points to his outline.

“That could work,” I said. I’d aimed for an encouraging tone but fell short. “It’s a start, but we have to keep going. This paper is due in a week, and you said you had a game tomorrow night.”

“And parties over the weekend,” he said. “Don’t forget those.”

I rolled my eyes, leaning against the table. Finally, I looked at him. “This isn’t working, but I know something that might.”

He gave me a questioning—and arrogant—look. All of his looks were arrogant, somehow. “I’m all ears.”

“You’re not going to like it,” I began with a sign as I sank down next to him. “But I hope you’ll do it anyway.”

KYLE

I’d always been lucky—on or off the field. And it had been pure luck that the powers that be had assigned me the most uptight, serious, and drop-dead-gorgeous tutor ever.

She was just my type, too. A woman who didn’t know how hot she was, and didn’t yet know what her body could do. Definitely not when it was attached to mine. I was good at baseball, sure, but my talent, my specialty, was turning studious little mice like her into sexual goddesses who weren’t afraid of their own desires.

She thought she was tutoring me this semester, but there were quite a few lessons I was going to teach her.

So yeah, I’d join her in the hall of nerds, if I had to. If nothing else, I could show her what a real man’s like. I could write a compare and contrast essay on that, no problem.

“All right,” I said.

Her eyes lit up, and a slow smile appeared on her face. Such soft, pink lips, but they’d look better when they were swollen and tender.

“Thank you,” she gushed, and then stopped as I raised an eyebrow. I knew what she was thinking, that she was supposed to help me, not the other way around. “I mean, I think this will really help you.” Her face flushed.

“You’re welcome,” I said, ignoring her second sentence. “So, where do you want to go?”

Her brow wrinkled a moment at my wording, but she shook her head as if to clear it. Her wavy ponytail danced across her back. I wanted to fist it in my hand and pull her to me and—

“We meet in the basement of the Grainger library,” she said. “Tuesdays and Thursdays at seven. Do you want me to text you, so you don’t forget?”

“That’s not what I meant. Where do you want to go on our date?”

“Our—what?” Her voice faltered and she stared at me, wide-eyed.

“That’s the deal. I go to your nerd convention, and you go out with me.” Man, the look on her face. She was so damn fun to toy with.
