Pulling her into my arms, I murmured, “You’re fucking brilliant. Ever think about going to law school?”

Britta giggled, then shrugged. “I don’t know. I think having a degree is a good idea, but…” Her face flushed, and she dropped her eyes to my chest.

With one finger under her chin, I lifted her face back up to mine. “But what? After everything I’ve shared with you and the way you turn into a wild cat when we fuck, you shouldn’t be embarrassed to tell me anything.”

Britta sighed. “I know, but I can’t help it. A lot of women would think I’m crazy. I just…I’ve always wanted to stay at home with my kids. My mom tried to spend time with me, but she was always working just to make sure we had food on the table.”

“Baby, I think that’s amazing.”

Her beautiful face brightened. “You do?”

“You’re going to be an incredible mom.”

And soon if I have my way. I’d certainly been working hard at it.

It turned out that Britta had been right. We’d come up with a legal way to tie the judge’s hands and refuse bail. Then a not-so-legal way to force him to quit and never practice law again. But I didn’t tell Britta that part.

I’d also sent the lawyer who helped us in Chicago go to the courthouse and file some papers that wouldn’t actually change anything about the case, legally. However, they would throw everyone into a tizzy until they figured that out. And while they did, Tommaso would remain locked up.

It wouldn’t delay his release more than a week or two, though.

Carlos kept us updated whenever he had new information, but we were mostly interested whenever he heard or found proof that Marylin was still alive. It looked like our first theory had been correct. They were holding her for Tommaso. If we could only find out where the fuck they’d stashed her.

It was another week before King finally called to tell us he’d finally made progress.

“You’re not gonna believe this shit,” he growled. “Turns out Portia really did her homework. She had somebody track Britta to Izzy. After they realized her dad was an Iron Rogue, they researched the MC. This was right about the time that they noticed that the number of people within their organization disappearing or being killed had been increasing.

“The prez and VP of an MC aren’t a secret, but she left a trail of empty beds in order to find out more. But she had to know that you would never lead anyone to Britta and Marylin.”

“Then how the fuck did she get their location?” I snarled.

“I hate to say it, man, but the fact that you all marry your old ladies gave her a leg up. It looks like she found Fox’s and Maverick’s old ladies are the only ones in the head chapter that have strong ties to another MC.”

Frustrated, I ran a hand through my hair. “Shit.”

Molly and Dahlia were Mac’s daughters, the president of the Silver Saints MC. And they were our connection to the Hounds of Hellfire.

“The Silver Saints are as loyal as they come and as tight-lipped about their organization as we are.

“Not to mention that they have just as ruthless of a reputation. No way did she get to one of them.”

“No. But she rolled in the sheets with the president of the Devil’s Jesters.”

“Son of a bitch!”

The Silver Saints had gone head-to-head with the other MC. The Devil’s Jesters were mean bastards who treated their women like garbage and were into all kinds of dirty shit.

“That’s how she knew to dig into the pasts of the old ladies. Any connections she found were explored through cash or sex.”

Disgusted, I grunted, “I don’t even want to know how many dicks she swallowed to get the information.”

“Yeah…” I could practically hear him cringing. “Once they looked into Bridget…”

Mac’s wife, Bridget, had grown up on the Hounds of Hellfire compound. The former president was her father. King had taken over when the older man retired.

“All this explanation better be leading to the news that you found out who the rat is,” I growled. “Otherwise, all you’re doing is guaranteeing that I kick your ass the next time I see you.”

“Watch it, Jackson,” King barked. “Don’t threaten me. You come after the president of another club, and Fox will have your ass.”

I grunted, unwilling to verbally acknowledge that he was right.

Then he muttered, “And I did find him.”

“He better be fucking dead.”

“He doesn’t know we’re onto him yet.”

“Why the fuck not?” I bellowed.

“Because we think with the right bread crumbs, he could get Portia to lead us back to the boss.”

“You have forty-eight hours to convince me this will work, or I’m comin’ down there and putting a bullet between his eyes.”

King was quiet for a moment, then spoke in a low tone laced with warning. “I get that she’s your woman, Stone, which is why I’ve put up with your attitude. And why I’m agreeing to your demand. But don’t push your fucking luck.”
