He shrugged. “I can’t help it. They were trying to bug my house and kept asking inappropriate questions.”

“Papa probably has a point.”

“Thank you.”

Oops.

“Blank mind.

Blank mind.

Blank mind.”

“It’s not blank when you’re thinking about being blank.” Papa couldn’t seem to decide if he wanted to laugh or shake his head. “Okay, close your eyes.”

I could do that.

Nope, didn’t make my brain any less excitable.

“It’s not the darkness that will help.” Daddy’s snickering wasn’t helping either. “Smarty-pants.”

Ugh.

Papa was back to laughing and I could feel him shaking his head. “We’re going to fix this. Okay. Big deep breath and just think about our mate bond. Not us. Not sex. Just the bond you have with us.”

“This is harder than he thinks because sex is always the first thing I think about when my mates pop up in my head.”

“That’s—”

“Don’t distract him. You do this too.” Papa was back to getting cranky again and made a frustrated sound.

“Oh, he heard that.

But sighing and pretending not to hear makes him a very good mate.”

“Thank you.”

Oops.

Closing my eyes wasn’t helping.

“Find your mate bond.” Papa’s voice was sounding more like Master. “I picture it like a thread but I’ve heard it described other ways. Just focus on finding the bond to start.”

Thread.

No thread wandering around.

Oh, ribbons.

Hey, that was my mates.

How long had that been there?

“Have I told you how distracting your brain is?” Master’s dry tone made me giggle. “Alright, wires and ribbons. Got it. No. Do not think about your Daddy having wires.”

Aww.

“Yes, Master.” I was probably supposed to ignore Daddy’s giggling too. “I see my ribbons.”

Daddy made a soft sound but I focused on Master nodding against my head. “Very good. Now, do you see how bright they are? We’re going to lower that and make them less vibrant. You can even make them black and white. The bond is still there. We’re just making it blend into the background.”

“Are everyone’s that neon? It’s like living in the eighties in my head.”

“Focus, monkey.” Master’s tone probably wasn’t supposed to turn me on but it did. He sounded like an ogre. “Stop that.”

Oops.

Ribbons.

Okay, they didn’t need to be so bright. I liked soft colors too. The neon didn’t match the aesthetic in my head either. Yes, a subtle yellow and blue was lovely. Not pink-level pretty but they would work.

Lower.

Softer.

Just barely a color.

And my head was quiet again.

Thank the dragons above.

Even Daddy sighed. “That’s amazing.”

Papa let out a deep breath. “I’m so fucking glad that worked.”

“It might not have?” My eyes opened without me planning on it but I approved. “I could’ve been stuck hearing how hungry Daddy was all the time? If I think about eating that much, I’ll eat that much and then that would be bad.”

I had a good metabolism but I was half the size of Daddy.

Papa snickered. “But you’re saved, so we’re not going to worry about it.”

Yes, good point.

“Thank you for helping me turn down my colors.” Closing my eyes, I curled back into Daddy. “That was kind of exhausting but I liked some of it.”

Especially Master’s naughty words.

“All you have to do is make the colors brighter and then you’ll be able to talk to us again.” Master sounded more like Papa as he petted my back and kissed my head. “I read about it in an old journal. It was a technique they used to teach newly mated couples.”

“Can I tell Kenzie and Boyd about it? Is it private? I don’t think Stefan’s read that journal yet.” He would’ve pointed it out if he had. He liked sharing mate stuff. Some of it made him blush and giggle but that made it even more fun too.

I’d have paid more attention in history class if the teacher had blushed.

Papa made a thinking sound, obviously not able to hear my thoughts since he wasn’t frustrated or sighing. “It’s an old family journal. It’s not in the archives.”

Oh.

“But it’s not something considered private. I just hadn’t met any mates that were struggling with something like this, so I hadn’t thought to mention it.” Papa shifted lower in the chair so I was lying on his chest. “Most bonds haven’t been this strong in a long time.”

We were still ignoring that, right?

“I’m just glad you knew what to do.” Daddy’s chuckle said we were still ignoring it. “I’m not sure I could’ve worked all day with Lorne’s thoughts on sex and sparkly things always in the back of my head.”

Nope.

Food would be worse…sparkly things were wonderful.

“Sex is a wonderful way to keep the mind and body occupied.” Clenching my butt cheeks, I wiggled over Papa’s erection. “It’s good exercise too.”

Groaning, Papa wrapped his arms around me and pinned me in place. “You have to stop that, monkey.”

Giggling, I kissed his cheek and kept clenching even though I couldn’t wiggle much. “Why?”

We should celebrate having privacy again.
