Harlee walked back into the living room carrying two beers. She handed me one before she sat down. “What do you do for work during the winter months?”

After taking a drink, I set the beer down. “Well, if I’ve had a good season before, I don’t have to worry too much, especially if I’m smart with my money. But I do have a few charters for fly fishing scheduled. St. George River can be fly-fished all year round.”

“I’ve always wanted to learn how to fly fish.”

Without even thinking, I replied, “I’ll teach you.”

Her eyes lit up and that made my chest flutter. I almost rubbed at it.

“Would you really?”

“Sure, if you really want to learn.”

She smiled. When her eyes drifted down to my mouth, then quickly away, I decided we needed to talk about what happened.

“Harlee, about last night—”

Lifting her hand, she said, “It’s okay, Brax.”

“No, I was a dick afterward with my shitty comment about practice. I didn’t mean that at all, and it’s far from the truth.”

Her eyes met mine. “Don’t try and tell me you’re a sweet innocent boy who doesn’t give oral sex to women.”

“I won’t say that, but it’s been few and far between.”

She raised a brow. “Why? If you don’t mind me asking.”

I shrugged. “I don’t mind at all. It’s not something I do if I’m casually hooking up with someone.”

“What was last night then?”

“You’re different.”

She blinked a few times, looking away for a long moment before she focused back on me. “No one has done that to me since…well…since we were together.”

A sinking feeling in my stomach made me squirm in my seat. I wasn’t sure if her confession should make me happy or not. Had she not wanted me to do it? She’d certainly seemed to enjoy it—or at least, I thought she had. “Because you don’t like it?” I asked.

When she looked at me, I realized I was holding my breath.

“I like it, but it felt too… I just haven’t been with another man whom I wanted that sense of connection with. It’s very personal, being with someone like that.”

A lump formed in my throat, and I wanted to say something. But I wasn’t sure what she wanted to hear.

“You’re different as well. I wanted you to do it, Brax.”

I smiled slightly. “So your comment this morning about it not relaxing you was…?”

She shot me a sly look. “If you think I’m going to compliment you right now, Braxton Bradley, you are mistaken.”

Laughing, I sat back. “A man can try. Maybe if you give me another shot at it, I can change your mind.”

“Another shot?”

“It was the middle of the night, and I was tired. It took a lot of mental energy to write that reply to Ms. Seaside.”

She slowly shook her head as a sexy smile grew on her beautiful face. “You poor thing, having to use all that brain power.”

“I know, it was terrible.”

With a tilt of her head, she asked, “Just curious, but…what would you do to redeem yourself?”

“So it really wasn’t good?”

“I never said that. You were in the room. Did you not hear me when I came?”

Fuck, this woman is going to drive me insane. “I heard you.”

“Then you know the answer to that question.”

I moved in my seat again, and her eyes shot down to my crotch and then back up. “Then what exactly would I be redeeming myself for?”

“For the dick comment you made afterward. For deflating the high I was on after my orgasm.”

“Ahh,” I said, leaning forward and resting my arms on my legs. “Well, I could take that vibrator you have upstairs and use it on you.”

“No confidence in your own tools?”

I nearly coughed on my own spit. “I have plenty of confidence. That would be only the start of my redemption.”

“Okay, so you’d play with me with the vibrator. Then what would you do?”

Christ Almighty, if my dick wasn’t hard as a rock. “I’d ask what you wanted me to do.”

Her brows rose. “A giving lover. I wouldn’t have pegged you as such.”

Smirking, I replied, “I can be many different kinds of lover, Harlee.”

Her tongue swept across her lips, and I reached down to adjust myself.

“Problem down there?” she asked.

“I know how to make it go away.”

Harlee looked down at the board and took in a deep breath. She exhaled and asked, “What are we doing here, Brax?”

“I think we’re talking dirty to each other.”

She smiled but kept her eyes on the board. “It’s pretty obvious we’re sexually attracted to one another.”

“You think so?”

Looking up, her eyes met mine. “Is that what you want, Brax?”

I frowned. “What do you mean?”

“Another fuck buddy? Because that’s not what I’m interested in.”

It felt like a rock settled in the pit of my stomach. I had so many things I could have said to her in that moment. That I wanted more from her than simply sex. That I wanted to see where things could go between us. That I wanted a life with her that I never thought I’d want with any woman. That seeing her with other men nearly drove me fucking crazy. That every woman I ever slept with, I compared to her. Wished they had been her.
