I laughed. “I’ll save that for our one month anniversary. It’s about the resort.”
She pulled back, a worried expression on her face. “That didn’t take long.”
“I’m going to take advantage of the uniqueness of Holiday Grove and this area in general. Instead of a resort that juts high into the sky, I’m going to turn it into bungalows with a mountain view, taking advantage of all the wealthy customers who just need to get away and commune with nature. They’ll love a week filled with all the heart that Holiday Grove can give them. We both get what we want, and I get to keep you.”
She blinked rapidly and more tears fell. “Lee, I can’t ask you to do that. I would never.”
I kissed the tip of her nose. “You didn’t ask, I’m doing this because I already love this place and I don’t want it to have the bleak future you mapped out. I want to talk through this town hand in hand with you, enjoying all of its crazy holidays and festivals.”
“See? You’re so sweet. I wish everyone could see this side of you.”
“Never,” I growled, making her laugh. “That’s just for you, Nix. Only for you.”
“I love you, Lee Lancaster.” She grabbed the front of my shirt and gave me the kiss to end all kisses, or rather the kiss that was the start of something really great.
A lifetime together.
“I love you too, Nix. Merry Christmas.” I leaned in to kiss her again but Mac interrupted.
“Yeah, yeah, we all love each other. Where’s the grub?”
Nix burst out laughing and wrapped her body around mine. “It’ll be ready soon, Diva.”
Mac’s brows furrowed. “That’s Mister Diva to you.” He winked. “I’m glad you worked it out, this guy was miserable without you.”
She laughed and turned to me, love shining in her eyes. “I was miserable without you too.”
“Never again. I never want to be without you again, Nix. We can travel the world together. You and me and whoever else comes along.”
Her eyes widened and a slow smile spread across her face before she jumped into my arms and kissed me like she meant it. Eventually she pulled back with slick, puffy lips and heavy lids. “Merry Christmas, Lee.”
Merry Christmas?
More like the best Christmas ever.
