For Resurrection, when that role needed someone to fill it, that fell to Peanut, Rainman’s woman.

No, Janna loved to look after her old man and the two kids they’d made. She loved her family, all of it, and they loved her. But she liked to fade into the background, and since that was what she needed, that was what they gave her.

And anyway, Peanut, Ducks (Web’s woman) and Choppy (Spartan’s old lady) more than represented the ballsy biker bitch contingent of the Resurrection MC.

When they were Bounty, he couldn’t remember those women being much more than watchful, unless they got drunk, which gave them permission to get wild.

But shit, they flourished when the brothers pulled their heads out of their asses.

It was a lesson for all the men, but especially the single ones, Eight, Muzzle and Core.

And when they were on their mountain, they made sure to impart this wisdom to the new brothers, Shimmy and Brain (who was already taken), and they’d give it to Speed and Linus when it was their time to patch in.

That lesson being, when you were so under the shit that buried you, you could lose sight of the fact, if someone was tied to you, you’d bury them in that shit right along with you.

Rosalie knew that even before they did what they did.

Same with Pea, Chop and Ducks, they knew it too.

It was just the men who had to get their shit tight, something they did.

Now, it was good.

Nope.

Watching Hellen and her girls, for Core, it was awesome.

And he wanted to feel the fullness of that.

But he couldn’t.

“Janna could use a posse,” Muzzle noted.

He was right. Pea, Ducks and Chop were great women, but not only were they polar opposites in terms of personalities, they were older than Janna.

She never seemed lonely, she was in so deep for Beck and their kids.

But she sure as shit looked content where she was right then, gabbing with Kyra.

“Up to Hellen,” Core grunted. “It’s her crew.”

Muzzle turned to him. “Yeah.” Then he changed the subject. “We’re a team this week out on rounds.”

“I know.”

“Might have a sitch. Beck didn’t want to get into it with this going down tonight, he’ll brief us tomorrow.”

Great.

Muzzle studied him a beat then said, “Not sure why you look like someone ran over your puppy. She’s the shit. Everyone loves her.”

“I haven’t told her.”

Muzzle knew exactly what Core was saying, that was why his lips thinned.

“I know.” Core looked down at his beer and muttered, “Fuck.”

“You gotta tell her, brother.”

He looked to Muzz. “No shit?”

Muzzle turned fully to him. “I noticed, and I don’t sleep with her, so I figure you noticed too that she’s in deep for you, man.”

“Told me she loves me,” Core murmured.

“Okay then,” Muzzle said. “You love someone, you love them, past sins and all.”

Core was getting pissed. “Yeah? Where’s your old lady again? Since, when you had to do this, it went so well for you.”

At that, Muzz got pissed.

“We’re not talking Janna here,” Core continued. “And that’s no shade on her, but Hellen broke up with her last man because he didn’t put plastics in the recycling bin.”

Muzzle’s brows shot up. “No shit?”

Core shook his head. “It was more. He was a lazy ass and a dick. Kiki got up in my shit about that kind of thing when we were together. It’s no skin. It’s important to her, you recycle, for fuck’s sake.”

Muzzle had been the youngest of them back in the day, now the new men were younger than him. Even so, to Core, sometimes it felt like he was still the baby of the bunch.

And Muzzle had yet to have a long-term relationship, or at least one that lasted more than a year.

In that moment, Muzzle appeared to be filing this away for future reference, which might explain why Muzz, every once in a while, as he waded through the bitches he seemed to attract, he would find a decent one, and then he’d do some stupid shit and lose her.

Muzzle absorbing that knowledge almost made Core smile.

But he didn’t.

He knew Muzzle was going to give it to him before he did it, so Core braced.

“What I said earlier is true. She doesn’t love you if she doesn’t love you, past sins and all. You know I’m not making light of our history. I’m just saying, you are not that man anymore. You put a lot of work into not being that man. And if she doesn’t know it, then she’s not the right woman.”

Hearing those last words spoken, he loved Muzz, but it took a lot not to land a fist in his face.

He didn’t.

He took a long pull of his beer.

“Think about that, because I’m right and you know it,” Muzzle told his profile. “And then tell her, because the longer you wait, brother, the shittier it is you waited. And that will be all on you.”
