“Landry told me about the Secret numbers. They’re incredible.”
“Yeah?” Dylan asked. That confused him. Did he not know?
“You’re up, we’re up. It’s a first in that division,” Tristan said.
“Yeah, I know. And that’s what you pay me to do. I’m just doing my job,” Dylan added, pulling through the streets of his neighborhood without any help from him. They’d spent a lot of time here together, and he’d learned his way.
“Dad, when are you and Tristan gonna have a baby?” Chad asked. He found the question incredibly funny, laughing before he could even get the words out. Dylan looked in the rearview mirror and then slammed on his brakes. Tristan felt Chad ram against his seat seconds before Dylan and Chloe started laughing. Probably not the first time that had happened.
“You’re so funny. Put on your seatbelt, wise guy.” Dylan laughed, smiling big into the backseat. It took a second for Chad to get off the floor and they were all giggling at that.
Tristan reached over and took Dylan’s hand in his. Work, the numbers, none of it mattered to Dylan while he was with his family. Tristan looked up suddenly. Maybe that was why they never spoke of work when they were off the clock. Dylan considered him part of his family. The emotion of that thought had him smiling like the Cheshire cat.
“What?” Dylan asked him.
“I’m happy. I love you.”
“I love you, too,” Dylan replied and was immediately back to questioning him with that look he knew so well.
“Chloe, we’re making a pact right now. We’re never acting like that when we fall in love.” Chad held out his hand for a shake, but Chloe refused to participate.
“Whatever. I want it to be just like that.”
Tristan turned back and gave her a wink. He planned to stay like this forever.
