That is until we got into a small fight. I wanted to show up to the office alone. I didn't want everyone knowing I was banging the boss. They already had enough material to talk about with how my first day went down.

People have already put together that we had a connection because of me calling him an asshole. Otherwise I would have been fired on the spot. Eros might be one of the good guys and laid back, but there is no way he would have let any other employee get away with talking to him the way I had.

I finally got Eros to agree, but I could tell from his expression he wasn’t happy about it. I’d gotten what I’d wanted. I should have been happy about it. I wasn’t either. I miss him.

Eros doesn’t pay me any attention throughout the morning and into the afternoon. I've been working out in the bullpen with Julie, and he has barely glanced my way. I don’t know why it annoys me, but it does.

“All right, I need to make some calls I’ve been putting off. Think I’m going to call it on this for the day.” Julie starts packing up her stuff. “Thanks for your help again. You have an eye for design. Anyone ever tell you that before?”

"No, I simply enjoy combining colors and textures that people might not think would go well together, but they do." I have to admit that it’s nice to get praise for something that I love doing. It’s not something I’m used to.

“You’re excellent at it, Lev.” Julie stands, collecting the rest of her stuff. “See you later.”

“Later.” I watch her walk over to one of the many glass offices and go inside, closing the door behind her.

My attention goes to Eros’s door. Kate's coming out of his office. The two of them seem close. If you didn’t know better, you’d think Kate was running this place. She is always moving around, and she is the one giving out orders or details on things. I guess she’s his right-hand woman. The woman is impressive.

Eros comes out of his office a few seconds later. He has on slacks and a buttoned-down shirt that he’s rolled up the sleeves on. He looks so damn handsome. He walks down a few doors, stepping into Max’s office. I try not to stare, but I'm unable to focus on anything else. To distract myself, I find my phone from inside my bag. I completely forgot about it after I got into the car with Eros.

I see missed calls from my mother, Gabriella, and a number I don’t know. Seeing my mom’s name reminds me I should probably deal with my bank, but I don’t know what I’m going to tell them. I hate that she’s put me in this position. If I tell the bank the truth, then that will get her in trouble. If I don’t, then my money is gone forever.

“Got a second?”

“Holy shit!” She startled me. Where the hell did she come from?

“Sorry.” Kate gives me a warm smile.

“I have all the seconds, actually. Got anything for me to do?”

“Can you come with me?”

“Sure.” I get up from my chair and follow her into her office. She closes the door behind us. Crap, am I in trouble? Is she going to grill me about Eros?

“I know you don’t want people in the office knowing about you and Eros.”

“You know.” Of course she does. I bet if Eros breathes differently, she senses it.

“I have known Eros since college. I knew something from the start. He didn’t need to tell me anything.”

“You guys are close.”

“We’re friends and work well together.” Kate sits down behind her desk. “Please.” She motions to one of the chairs in front of her desk.

“Is this where you grill me like a sister does?”

“No,” Kate laughs. “Eros can handle his own love life. Maybe if I stay out of his, he’ll stay out of mine.” The tartness in her tone piques my curiosity more.

“Does Eros play matchmaker or something?”

“No, he just meddles in my business and makes his little comments about me and—” Kate stops. “It doesn’t matter. It’s not happening.”

“Going to be honest. You speak with a firmness of authority, but that last sentence you just said had none to it.” Kate takes a deep breath. “Maybe Eros is right about whoever this person is. He’s a good man, so I don’t think he’d set you up with a douche.”

“No, not a douche.” Kate lets out a small laugh. “It’s complicated.”

“Is it?” Her brows furrow together, but Kate shakes it off.

“Doesn’t matter right now. There are other issues to address, such as Eros. He has a dinner to attend this evening, and he wants you to go with him.”

“Like a business meeting?”

“Sorta, it could turn into business, or it could end up being nothing.”
