Adam suspected part of the reason she was so upset and frustrated had to do with a certain lunch he would bet his last dollar was still sitting in her fridge. “But,” he continued, “everything else that’s not related to your store falls under my jurisdiction. As your Daddy, I expect you to obey my rules. Did you eat your lunch today?”

She slowly shook her head.

“I didn’t think so. Do you think perhaps part of the reason you’re so upset is because you didn’t get enough nourishment in your body today?”

She slowly nodded. “Maybe.”

“Little girls who don’t eat get hangry, don’t they?”

“Yes, Sir,” she mumbled.

“How about you go grab your lunch from the fridge and sit and eat it while we talk some more,” he suggested with a pat on her bottom.

“Okay, Daddy.” She slid off his lap and shuffled toward the fridge. When she returned, holding the teddy bear lunchbox he’d sent with her to work, he set it on the desk, lifted her onto his lap, and snuggled her against him.

“What’s in it, Daddy? You always make such yummy lunches. Part of why I didn’t open it was because I was mad at you and I knew it would make me smile and ruin my mad,” she admitted.

He chuckled as he opened the lunchbox for her. “I’m glad my food makes you happy, Rosebud.”

She drew in a breath. “That looks so good.” As soon as he held it up, she snatched the thick sandwich from his hands and took a huge bite. “Mmm.” After swallowing, she asked, “What’s in it today, Daddy?”

“Turkey, avocado, sprouts, lettuce, tomatoes, provolone, and wholegrain bread.” He gave her a squeeze, relieved she was no longer shooting daggers at him.

“So good.” She devoured it, moaning around every bite in a way that made Adam grit his teeth to keep his cock from reacting. He was failing, especially when she squirmed her little bottom on his lap.

As soon as she ate the last bite, she reached for the cupcake. He’d put it in a closed container, preventing her from seeing which type it was. He did this every day so her desserts were always a surprise.

She giggled as soon as she opened it. “Santa’s Kiss! I love this kind.” She twisted in his arms and hugged him tight. “Thank you, Daddy. Thank you for coming over here and fixing things so I wouldn’t be mad anymore. I’m sorry I was naughty and hung up on you and didn’t listen to you. I won’t do it again. I promise.”

He held her close, nuzzling her neck, breathing in her scent. “Couples fight sometimes, Rosebud. It will happen. But I want you to talk things out with me so we never go very long angry at each other, okay?”

“Yes, Daddy.”

“And when we get home, I’m going to spank your bottom for not eating your lunch. I bet some of your frustration could have been avoided if you’d eaten properly.” He lifted a brow.

She sighed. “You’re right, Daddy. I won’t complain when it’s time for my spanking.”

“Good girl. Now, how about if you finish that cupcake and get back out on the floor. Daddy needs to get back to work. If Deke is still here when you lock up, have him walk you to your car. If not, call me to come meet you. I bet you have a lot more money than usual in the store today. I don’t want you carrying it out to your car alone.”

“Yes, Daddy. I will. I promise.”

Chapter Fourteen

The rest of the day went by smoothly and fast. Rose felt much better after she’d eaten and talked to her Daddy. Plus, she realized he was probably right. From the moment Deke had arrived to save the day, the atmosphere in the store had improved.

Rose watched him closely. He was efficient and knew how to run a store. He might not know much about stuffies, but he learned fast and was always one step ahead of anything that was running low or needed attention.

By the time they closed the gate to end the day, Rose was mentally calculating just how much she could afford to pay him and praying he would be willing to consider becoming the manager.

The thought of spending more time with her Daddy was so appealing that it no longer mattered to her if she had to part with some of her income to do so. It would be worth every dime.

Before she’d met Adam, she’d been in a constant frenzy worrying about finances and ensuring her business was viable. She refused to consider failure. But Stuff-It was a thriving store. With Larisa’s help with social media and Amber coming in after school, they’d been doing amazingly. Adding a manager though… That would be heaven.

She really wished she hadn’t been so quick to anger earlier at her Daddy’s suggestion.
