“That’s me,” Sadie said with a smile. Mr. Kingsley had sent her a work phone as she’d requested.

“I’ll help you with the other things,” Rocco said. “We can put it here in the lobby. I’ll get some other guys to take it upstairs.”

The guy nodded. “That would be wonderful. I was worried.” He chuckled. “I’m already behind today. When I saw the size of this building, I figured I was going to be here a few hours getting all this up to the fourth floor or something.”

Rocco smiled. “Nope. You’re off the hook on that.” He turned back to Sadie and kissed her cheek. “I’ll help unload the truck. We’ll talk more later, okay?”

She nodded, wondering what on earth was being delivered. Mr. Kingsley hadn’t emailed her about anything else that would arrive like he usually did. Especially an apparently large order.

The delivery guy turned and headed back out the front door.

When Sadie stepped forward to investigate, Rocco shot her a silly smirk. “Don’t be nosy, Little girl. I bet you have something else you could be doing.”

Her mouth fell open. Nosy? Now, her curiosity was seriously piqued.

Rocco returned to face her and leaned in to whisper in her ear, “Did you want to find out what it feels like to get your bottom spanked already this morning, sweetheart?”

Her breath hitched. “No, Sir,” she murmured in response.

“Then I suggest you turn around and let Daddy handle this delivery without snooping. I’ll program all of our numbers into this new phone and bring it to you, and I promise you’ll find out what everything else is eventually.” He leaned back and met her gaze. His eyes were twinkling mischievously.

Which one of them was naughty now?

She decided this odd little game was kind of fun, though, and since he’d said she would get to see the delivery at some point, she would do as she’d been told and go find something else to work on. She kind of liked the idea of surprises. What on earth could possibly be arriving that was large and obviously involved her in some way?

When she didn’t move fast enough, Rocco took her shoulders and turned her around before swatting her bottom playfully. “I’ll meet you here in the lobby at seven, Sadie.”

“Yes, Sir.”

As he turned toward the entrance and started walking away, she very definitely watched his ass. With a much better attitude than she’d had before this encounter with her Daddy, she decided to dive into her list of jobs to finish today. The guests would be coming at the end of the week. She needed to get a move on, checking off the tasks.

Chapter Eleven

It only took about an hour for Rocco and the rest of the team to get all the furniture up to the fifth floor. They dropped unassembled furniture boxes in everyone’s spare rooms before heading for Rocco’s playroom to help him get everything put together.

He was excited to have this space coming together. Sadie might not be ready to sleep in his bed yet, but he wanted her sleeping in his apartment as soon as possible.

He’d been restless last night after leaving her alone in her studio on the fourth floor. There weren’t even other people on the fourth floor. He figured he would have to endure at least a few more nights of separation before she would be ready to agree to move into his apartment, but those nights weren’t going to be restful.

After assembling the furniture, Rocco showered and headed into town to pick up the orders he’d placed with a few local merchants. He was beyond pleased with his purchases and had nearly everything in place with time to spare before dinner.

He had a phone call to make first. Luckily, Kingsley had left a contact number for the men to use. Rocco wasn’t looking forward to this particular conversation, but it needed to happen.

Hell, he didn’t even know where Kingsley was on the planet. No idea of the time zone or the country or anything. All he could do was try to contact him and see what happened.

The phone clicked several times as if it were being transferred through different connections. As he processed that Kingsley had security measures in place for himself as well, the man himself answered, “Rocco Thompson. I was wondering when I might hear from you.”

Rocco was taken aback by Kingsley’s words. “You were expecting me?”

“Of course. How are you settling in?”

“Fine. Though I’ll admit you have all of us a bit on edge with the delivery you arranged for today.”

Kingsley chuckled. “I believe in due time you’ll all need those spare rooms. Am I wrong?”

Rocco inhaled deeply. “No, you’re certainly omniscient. It’s unnerving.”

“I don’t know why. You’re not a criminal, and nothing in your past would suggest I should be leery of you. I wouldn’t have pulled you into the team and entrusted you with protecting Sadie if I hadn’t done a thorough background check on not just you but each and every one of you.”
