His lip tips up into a smirk, and then he laughs. “I like you—”

“Feeling isn’t mutual.”

“I really like you now. Maybe I’ll have to get rid of Pax and try you out. I need someone who’s got your spunk, and he’s not very good at his job.”

“If you aren’t happy with your agent, that’s your problem, but I’m certainly not interested.”

“My agent is old news, but you . . .” His gaze lingers over me, making me feel even dirtier. “You’re the future. When are you going to go work with your father?”

“You know what? This is pointless.” I turn to leave, and he yells at my back.

“Let me know; I’m definitely interested.”

I storm off, not in the mood for any more shit. I’ve only been here for less than a day, and I’m already dreading my decision to push this deal through.

Leaving here can’t come soon enough.

I’m about to head in the direction of Michael and Stefan to tell them Teagan is sick for the day when a shadow steps in front of me.

I crane my head up and meet the familiar blue eyes that have driven me mad for the past few days.

“Paxton,” I grit.

“Mallory, what a pleasure to see you. What has you stressed? Not a missing actress, by any chance?”

“You know what, Paxton? Why don’t you worry about your own client? He needs to be placed on a tighter leash.”

He narrows his eyes, and his jaw tightens. “What happened?” For the first time since I met Paxton, I hear something else in the way he speaks. There’s no disdain in his voice. The only thing I hear is concern.

“Aside from his penchant for hitting on young girls?” His face pales at that, and for a moment, I consider fucking with him about how news has been leaked, but considering the real leak, it wouldn’t be funny. “Seems he’s not too happy with you. Wants to sign with me.” I smirk. “Apparently, and I quote, ‘You aren’t very good at your job.’”

“He’s all yours.”

@Stargossip: We hear our leading lady has a bug . . . the stomach bug, to be exact. Could it really be, or is she just sick of her costar? Signs point to the latter.

@Bitchpleaseme: Someone should drop a house on Teagan.

@SpeakEasyToMe: @Bitchpleaseme You’re what’s wrong with the world!

@Deathtothesystem: If people are getting sick, it’s time to shut this DOWN!

Unlike yesterday, I’m in no rush to leave my bed. My body is bone-tired, and even this hard-as-hell bed feels like a cloud today.

Not even coffee can lure me from this cozy mass of sheets.

I know what’s in store for me when I leave the safety of this hut, and it’s all-out pandemonium. With Teagan taking the rest of the day yesterday to nurse her not-so-upset stomach, they’ll have her make up for it with double the shots today.

Which will only serve to piss off Brad and make for a grumpy crew.

This whole production is a ticking time bomb. Eventually, it will blow, and I’m just hoping to be far from the island when it does. That or I will at least have a raft to keep me afloat.

Stretching my arms over my head, I admit defeat. Even if I don’t want to go, I have to. Teagan needs me after yesterday, and I won’t let her down.

Fifteen minutes later, I’ve showered, dressed, and am walking down the path. When I make it to craft services, I head right for the coffee and then walk to an unoccupied table, determined to get my bearings before being accosted by someone who needs something from me.

Around me is plenty of chatter, and from what I can gather from my eavesdropping, Stefan plans on shooting on the water today. Right next to the rickety dock.

That’s a recipe for disaster.

In tomorrow’s news, lead actress gets stabbed by rusted nail and contracts tetanus.

I lift my cup to my mouth and take a sip of my hot coffee. As always, the taste and smell help alleviate some of the stress lingering inside me. It’s not a miracle worker. I’m still tense, but at least I’m waking up and ready to attack the day and all the shit it brings.

I hang back at the table until I see everyone start to get up, and that’s when I finally push my chair back and stand, searching the area.

I haven’t seen Teagan yet this morning. Hopefully, she’s feeling better after yesterday.

Following the crowd of people, I head toward the dock and hang back as everyone gets to their places.

I’m standing in the corner, far enough away that I won’t distract anyone, but close enough to have an unobscured view.

“Your client planning on coming to work today?” His gravelly voice makes my back go ramrod straight.

Goddammit.

It is too early for Paxton Ramsey to be this close to me.
