“These are my private quarters—only myself and my Concubines may enter,” The Prophet explained, throwing another dazzling smile over his shoulder. “And of course, those lucky couples who are going to be Bound together for all eternity. It’s not every day I get to conduct a Binding Ceremony between two such dissimilar individuals,” he added, eyeing Sev and Mia as they entered behind him with the Elders still at their backs. “Why, she’s half your size, man! How do you make that work? You must nearly split her in two when you take your husbandly rights!”
He winked lewdly and Sev felt a growl rising in his throat.
“None of your fucking business,” he said.
“Language!” the Elder behind him snapped and shoved a blaster muzzle hard into Sev’s wounded back.
Looking over his shoulder, Sev gave him a snarl that made the fucker back up, though he still kept his blaster trained on him.
“Elder Malechi, that’s really not necessary,” the Prophet said mildly. “In fact, you and the other Elders can wait outside, if you don’t mind. You know how I hate it when my quarters get too crowded.”
“But, my Prophet—this one is dangerous!” the Elder behind Sev protested.
“I’ll be perfectly safe.” The Prophet tapped the sparkling thing around his neck. “I have the Charmer.”
“I don’t think it works on this one, though,” the Elder said, nudging Sev again—though more carefully this time—with his blaster.
“It does tend to work better on some than others—he could be a rare one who’s immune,” The Prophet admitted. “But never fear—I have that covered as well.” And he pulled a blaster of his own out of the folds of his robe and waved it at Sev. “You see?” he said to the Elders. “I’ll be perfectly safe. Though if you wish, you can wait just outside the door and keep it unlocked.”
The Elders didn’t look happy with this arrangement but it was clear The Prophet was adamant about not letting all of them into his private quarters at once. So at last, they filed back through the door and shut it, though Sev didn’t hear any locking mechanisms engage.
“Now then—finally, a bit of privacy,” The Prophet remarked, smiling at Sev and Mia, whose eyes were still firmly closed.
“That’s more than anyone else in this fucking Dome gets,” Sev growled. “Since you’re watching all of them all the fucking time. Between the ‘milkings’ and the ‘punishments’ you must really get off.”
“I won’t deny that I sometimes enjoy what I see,” the Prophet said, shrugging. “But it’s my duty to watch. The sexual union of each couple under my care is most important to me—that’s one reason we have each and every domicile under constant surveillance.”
They were in a kind of antechamber now, which seemed to be filled with technical equipment. Sev saw an entire wall covered with rows of flat white screens. Each screen was numbered and every one switched pictures regularly. He saw flashes of the different residents going about their lives—cooking… cleaning…fucking.
The numbers must correspond to the various domiciles and the screens keep switching from room to room, he realized. He wondered which screen corresponded to the domicile he and Mia had been staying in—now they knew that nothing they had done was private—not even things that had been done in the fresher, which pissed him off mightily.
“Of course, I can’t watch every couple all the time or I’d have no time to do anything else!” The Prophet laughed lightly. “Such as punishing and milking and breeding my lovely Concubines—which takes up a great deal of my time. But I do like to check in every once in a while. And of course, the Elders have their own bank of monitors, which they can use to help me keep our little community under surveillance.”
Translation: he and his fucking Elders are sitting around spying on people and watching them fuck all the Goddess damned time! And probably jerking off to it too! Sev thought, feeling disgusted.
When he remembered all the extremely private things he and Mia had done together in the past several nights, the idea of the Elders in their robes and The Prophet watching really pissed him off. He’d known they were under surveillance but he hadn’t known The Prophet himself was probably getting off on seeing them together.
Across from the bank of monitors was a round platform that looked to Sev like a small stage. There were several glow lights surrounding it and it had a fancy black velvet curtain as a backdrop. There was also an expensive looking auto-camera rig trained on the center of the stage.
“I also broadcast my vid lectures from here, when I can’t be bothered to make a live performance,” The Prophet said, noticing where Sev was looking. “The images taken here are linked directly to both the huge screen set up in the park and every single entertainment screen in every domicile. That way no one misses a lecture—can’t have anyone missing out on the Wisdom of The Prophet, now can we?” He smiled charmingly—a smile which Sev did not return.
