“Oh yes—it’s amazing.” She tried to smile and hoped she sounded sincere, though she couldn’t imagine anything worse than having to sit around for hours listening to the odious Prophet spout his misogynistic crap.
“Of course, it’s only on the big screen,” Kissie pointed out. “The Prophet will be streaming it to us from inside his Inner Inner Sanctum.”
She and Mia and Teebra and Zellah were working in the communal kitchen, since there was going to be another gathering that night.
Big screen for sure, Mia thought. Actually, it was more like a Jumbotron at a Major League Baseball stadium. She’d been watching the men putting it up across the park as she kneaded dough for tonight’s bread earlier—it truly was huge.
Thinking of the enormous screen, which would project the face and words of The Prophet that night, made her remember the other, smaller viewer from the night before. The one Sev had used to show her exactly what he was doing to her while she was kneeling on the milking mat…
He’d been playing with it that morning, making the camera bug fly around and show the two of them from different angles as they lay in each other’s arms. The viewer was sitting on the magic dresser, which made it easy to see from the bed.
“Where did you find that, anyway?” Mia had asked him sleepily as she enjoyed the feeling of being close to him.
“In the cabinet. Someone must have left it there.” Sev had directed the camera bug to take a close up of the two of them together, with Mia snuggled close to his broad chest.
“I bet I know who,” Mia had said.
Sev frowned.
“You do?”
“Of course! It had to be Enoc and Lisha. We know they lived here in this domicile at one point—we found that memory disk of Lisha reciting the rules, remember?”
“You’re right!” Sev had grinned at her. “And we know they’re kinky fuckers—always wanting everyone to watch them get off on each other while Enoc ‘punishes’ his wife.”
Mia frowned.
“But I thought they had a strict policy here about not allowing any kind of recording equipment in the Dome?”
“They don’t want you bringing anything in but they have plenty of equipment themselves,” Sev pointed out. “I wouldn’t be surprised if the Elders gave Enoc the camera bug themselves and told him to film what he does with his wife. Then they turned the recordings into Informational vids.” He snorted. “Probably jerked off to them too—horny fuckers. Even if it is supposed to be a ‘sin’ here for a male to ‘spill his seed upon the ground.’”
“You know,” Mia remarked. “I met a woman during my time in the communal kitchen who said her husband is too lazy to ‘punish’ her anymore. She says he just wants to sit around watching those Informational vids and, uh, jerking off.”
She giggled as she said it and Sev had laughed too. He sent the camera bug around to get a picture of the two of them grinning and it showed up on the viewer at once. As she looked at it, Mia thought she had never seen herself look so happy.
“What a great picture—can we keep it?” she asked her partner/Master/lover. Really, Sev was all those things to her—as well as her best friend, she thought dreamily.
“Sure we can keep it, baby.” He pressed the tiny control on his hand, which was actually a ring that fit on his pinky finger and the image blinked for a moment. “This is a handy little gadget—it can take hours and hours of footage and save and send live streaming vids to any device anywhere.”
“Doesn’t it have to be compatible with the device first?” Mia asked, frowning.
“Now you’re thinking of Earth technology—which really is years behind most other sentient species,” Sev told her. “The camera bug is designed to read other devices and form digital compatibility instantly. That’s why it’s so useful.” He frowned thoughtfully. “Think I’m going to take it to work with me today—maybe I can get some quotes from some of the people living here without them knowing.”
“Won’t they see you filming them?” Mia asked anxiously—she didn’t want Sev to get into trouble.
But he shook his head.
“Nah—the camera bug really does look like a bug. See?” He called it over and it landed on his big hand so he could show it to Mia.
She peered at it and saw that it really did look like a large, shiny green beetle, complete with compound eyes, a hard shell, and long, trembling antennae.
“It looks so real!” she exclaimed.
“Now look at the viewer,” Sev had directed her.
Mia looked and saw an extreme close up of her own face. She had laughed and shooed the bug away. It had flown up to the ceiling, taking another shot of her cradled in Sev’s arms, the two of them looking so happy and so right together…
