“Well it’s done,” he says, bringing me back to the now. He will send a car to bring us to one of his airstrips at nine. Now let’s just hope the girls are ready for it.
Driving back to the apartment, I ask Jacob if he needs to stop anywhere but he declines. We both agree that the girls are going to come back soon.
Once we get to the apartment, he and I begin trying to come up with our argument when the door opens, and they both walk in. Mari notices the bags first. I hear her lean towards Mila and whisper, ““Do you know what is going on?” Mila is shaking her head with a confused look on her face.
“Not even a little bit.”
“Shit. You both were not supposed to be back yet. Where are your bags?” Jake asks, walking towards Mila.
“We had a run in with the sister of Mari’s ex and we just wanted to come right home.” Hearing that sends my protective instincts in overdrive. I walk straight to her and start checking her over.
“Are you okay baby? Did she do anything to you?”
“Calm down Royce. I’m fine. She just caught me off guard.” Nodding, I pull her into my arms and hold her reminding myself that she is safe and alright.
“Why didn’t you call me, Mila? I would have come to get you both,” Jake asks her.
“Same here,” I chime in.
“We know. We just wanted to get out of there and get home to you two.” Mila begins to cry, and Jake immediately backtracks and apologizes for being upset. Sucker.
“Fuck baby, I’m sorry. I’m not mad at you, just worried. Please stop crying, you know how it fucks with me.” She buries her head in his chest and nods. I don’t miss the grin she shoots Mari, and I chuckle to myself. These damn girls got us by the balls, but you know what, I don't give a shit. I will give her anything she asks for.
“Well if you want to make it up to us, we would like to skip the prom. Neither of us want to go. We just want to be with you two, have a movie marathon and eat junk food.” Mari says. Jake and I look at one another and smile because this couldn’t have worked out any better.
“That is actually perfect because we were not planning to take you to the dance anyway,” I say, chuckling.
Without elaborating Jake speaks. “How about you ladies pack a weekend bag and come with us?'' He holds his hand out to Mila, and she smiles.
We tell them to pack dresses. Fancy ones which raise their eyebrows, but they do as we ask. I might have whispered in Mari’s ear to bring some of that lingerie I bought her last month. Her face blushed before she walked to the back with Mila.
Thirty minutes later we are on the plane flying to our future. The girls have no idea where we are headed but I don't think they care. They are more excited about the snack bar that apparently has all the things a pregnant woman needs.
“This is amazing,” Mila says, kissing Jake on his cheek.
“How did you do this?” Mari asks. I point to Jake.
“It was all him.” The girls turn to look at him and he glares at me.
“Ladies, I think it is best you don’t know. Okay?” Mila stares at him for a moment before she nods her head.
“Well however you did it, thank you so much. But, are you going to tell us where we are going?” Right as Mari asks, Mila gasps.
“Holy shit. We’re in Vegas!” She turns towards Jake and Mari looks at me. Jake and I exchange glances before I let the girls in on what’s going on.
“We are here to get married.” Mari looks at me in disbelief.
“I love you so much, Mila. I don’t want to wait to make you my wife.” Jake holds Mila’s face. I look at my woman and she has tears in her eyes.
“Is this for real, Royce?” Nodding, I reach into my pocket and pull out the box I have been holding since I started looking for her.
“It’s real baby. As real as my daughter in your belly. Give me your hand.” Face all flush and wet she holds out her hand and I slide the two-carat cushion cut on her finger. “You’re marrying me today. When we go back home, you are going to be my wife.” She giggles and wipes her gorgeous face.
“Then what are we waiting for?” she asks before throwing herself into my arms.
The wedding was quick and memorable. Especially watching my wife walking to me side by side with her best friend. Now that it is over, we are all on our way to our separate hotel rooms. The minute the door closes I am on her, taking off her dress with her against the door.
