My boyfriend salutes as he walks her to the door and lets her out, before coming back to the couch. Then he sits with me, pulling me close so he can wrap a big arm around my shoulders.
“So how was your day?” I ask.
“I think it went pretty good,” he smiles. “I put a bid in for the Pines Golf Course, did I mention? It’s close enough so that we’ll be able to use it to expand the Wilshire’s portfolio. If we win the auction, I’ll be the one running it, but we can still live here and I won’t have much of a commute when I need to be on site.” He puts a hand on my belly. “I don’t want to be far from you and the baby.”
I turn so I’m facing him and hug him, giving him a sweet kiss. “That’s great, Bruce. I knew you’d get your golf course. You earned it, and you’re going to be a wonderful manager.”
“Thanks, honey.” He cups my face and kisses me slowly, then he drops his forehead against mine. “You know, there is one thing that I’m forgetting.”
I smile, already knowing where this is going. My boyfriend adores my pregnant body, and loves to get me naked at every possible opportunity. “Oh really?” I tease. “What’s that?”
But it’s not sexy time he’s got on his mind. Instead, Bruce stands up and then he reaches into his pocket and pulls out a royal blue velvet box. My eyes go wide as he takes a knee before me and then pops open the lid to reveal a stunning diamond ring. It’s a simple platinum band set with an enormous gemstone sparkling in the light, and the air whooshes from my lungs.
“Bruce,” I gasp, and my hands begin to tremble as tears well up in my eyes. My handsome boyfriend takes my left hand in his and I can see his own gaze looking misty as he meets my eyes.
“Jemima James, I love you more than I ever thought possible. Each morning I wake up smiling because it’s another day I get to spend with you, in your presence. You give me a reason to be a better man, and now you’re about to bring our beautiful baby into this world. I never want to spend a single day without you, and I love you so much, sweetheart. Will you marry me? Will you do this poor wretch a favor and become Mrs. Bruce Wilshire?”
Tears are streaming down my face, and I can’t stop smiling. I push forward on the couch and throw my arms around his neck, kissing him again and again. “Oh, Bruce. I love you. I love you so much.”
Bruce laughs against my lips. “Is that a yes?”
“Yes! Yes, yes! I can’t wait to marry you, and become Mrs. Wilshire.”
With that, my gorgeous fiancé kisses me fiercely, pouring his love into me as our mouths move together. We’re both panting when he pulls back and his hands are shaking as he removes the ring from the box and slides it on my hand.
“When do you want to get married?” I ask.
His eyes light up. “Tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow?”
He nods, taking my hand in his and kissing my knuckles. “Yes, tomorrow. I don’t want to waste another day without being your husband, and we can fly to Vegas if need be.”
I smile brightly. “Then tomorrow it is. I love you, Bruce.”
“I love you, too, baby.”
And with that, our pact is sealed. After all, I approached him long ago with a proposal, which he accepted with startling results. But now, I’ve accepted the billionaire’s proposal in turn, and finally, the gorgeous playboy will be mine.
