After I thought about it for a moment or two, I nodded. “Okay, I can see it now. What about all her other jobs, though?”

Sutton glanced over her shoulder to where Palmer was sitting at a table with Dr. Bryan, his son, and two other women I didn’t know.

“I’m not sure, but I hope she really considers it. I think they’d make a cute couple.”

“Palmer and Dr. Bryan?”

She turned back and raised her brows. “You don’t?”

I let out a disbelieving laugh. “Well, considering your sister has sworn off men, and the fact that there’s a bit of an age gap, I don’t know.”

“Not that big of one. He’s thirty-five. Besides, you’re older than me by five years.”

“And Palmer is twenty-seven. That’s eight years. What if he doesn’t want any more kids?”

Sutton chewed on her lip, and I reached up and pulled it free.

“Stop doing that, or I’ll take you into the bathroom and bite that lip myself.”

She wiggled her brows. “I say we leave now.”

“I couldn’t agree more.”

Sutton and I made our way around the tent to the few people who were left. Dr. Bryan had already left with this son by the time we reached his table, so I missed the chance to meet him. Harlee and Thomas were gone, and Palmer was helping the cleaning staff pick up.

“Palmer, don’t ruin that dress!” Sutton stated as she walked up and took a plate out of her sister’s hand. “Come on, we’ll walk you up to your room.”

“No plans for this evening, Palmer?” I asked.

She shrugged. “I guess I could have a meaningless hookup with one of the three waiters who flirted with me all night. Or the dude who was working the front desk. He slipped me his number.”

“Is that what you want? Casual sex?” Sutton asked.

She frowned, and I could see it in her eyes. Palmer was lonely—but she wasn’t ready to admit it yet. “Not really. I’ll most likely pull out the new vibrator that came in. I told Harlee I’d preview it for her.”

I stumbled over my feet, stopped, and put my hands over my ears. “Nooooo. I don’t want to hear that kind of stuff, Palmer! Not from you or anyone else.”

“What about me?” Sutton asked with a smirk.

“You’re different. You’re my wife.”

She beamed. “I love hearing you say those words.”

I drew her body to mine and kissed her.

Palmer pretended to throw up. “Gag me. You two are worse than Gannon and Addie. Take it to your room.”

The elevator door of the hotel opened, and we were about to step in when someone called out Palmer’s name. She paused, and we all turned to see Dr. Bryan walking toward us.

“Hey, Mason. I thought you took Charlie up to your room?” Palmer asked as Sutton and I exchanged a look.

“Your mom was kind enough to offer to sit with him while we finished talking about the position.”

“The position?” Sutton said coyly.

Palmer slowly turned and shot her sister a dirty look, and I was positive she also pinched her, because Sutton jerked and moved closer to me.

Mason nodded, oblivious. “Addie suggested Palmer as a possible nanny for Charlie.” He looked back at Palmer. “Are you able to grab just one quick drink?”

Palmer was about to reject him—I could see it on her face—when Sutton spoke up. She gave her sister a little nudge. “She’d love to have a drink and talk about it more. She was just talking about the opportunity as we were walking to the elevator.”

Mason’s face lit up. Poor bastard. He had no idea what he was in for.

“Great. Just one drink,” he said. “I know you said you were tired, and I don’t want to leave your mom with Charlie for too long anyway. I’m sure she’s exhausted.”

“How kind of her to offer to watch him for you while we chat,” Palmer said, clearly forcing the smile that was on her face. I wondered if anyone else heard the sarcasm in her voice.

It appeared Sutton did. For a moment, I thought she was going to volunteer to take over for their mother. But all I wanted to do was get her to our room.

I wrapped my arm around my wife and guided her to the elevator.

“You two enjoy your drink,” Sutton called out as I ushered her away.

Pressing the up button, Sutton and I watched Palmer and Dr. Bryan head toward the bar.

“He is so into her,” Sutton said with a giggle.

“Why do you say that?”

She turned and gaped at me. “Tell me you didn’t see the way he looked at her, Brody!”

I smiled at my beautiful wife and escorted her into the elevator. “He just seemed like he wanted to talk to her about the job. If Palmer doesn’t want it, she needs to tell him that.”

She blinked a few times and shook her head. “You really don’t think he’s interested? I mean, you think he just wants her as a nanny?”
