I was breathless when he finally stopped torturing me, but the best and the worst part was that my dick didn’t seem to realize the difference between silly torture and the naughty kind. He got all worked up for nothing.

Being a very good doll, though, I just snuggled back into Owner’s chest and tried to look innocent as I ran my fingers over his nipples. “I’m going to a circus party. It’s going to be so much fun.”

Owner went still. “Why are you going to a circus party?”

Why wouldn’t I?

“Because I’m the clown?”

Hadn’t I mentioned that?

Chapter 18

Luca

At some point, I was going to start expecting the unexpected to come out of his mouth.

Right?

“Tell me about being a clown.” It seemed like the most straightforward way to figure out what he was talking about, but Emerson gave me a cute frown that was very genuine.

“Didn’t I mention that?” He cocked his head, studying me and obviously thinking about something before he shrugged. “Maybe not? I think I’m going to have to write everything down that I thought we talked about and you can tell me if we did.”

That sounded…overwhelming.

“Let’s focus on this one thing for the time being.” He was a clown? “What do you do as a clown?”

Was he actually a clown or was it some kind of euphemism I wasn’t aware of? With Emerson, and frankly the whole group at Leashes & Lace, I wouldn’t discount the idea.

Emerson gave me a curious look like I’d done something interesting. “I be a clown. You know, jokes and juggling and knife throwing and acrobatics.”

What the fuck?

“You throw knives?” I had questions on the rest as well, but that was the part that stuck out the most vividly.

Clowns threw knives?

How had they managed to get even scarier than they already were?

Instead of seeming to understand why I was slightly concerned, he smiled and kissed my cheek. “Thank you for worrying about me, Owner, but it’s very safe.”

How?

How was it very safe?

Okay.

This was Emerson.

I wasn’t thinking outside the box enough…but where to begin?

“Pretty one, how long have you been a clown?” His perky smile said he didn’t think the question was stupid, so it felt like we were making progress.

Giving me a shrug that was artful and very well designed, he smiled innocently. “Forever.”

Thankfully, a longer explanation quickly followed. “You have to start with simple things, but by the time I was eight, I was doing the knife act. I was never good enough to go on the highwire, though. It made my mother nervous when I would wobble.”

He seemed offended by that, so I found myself nodding and feeling terrible for him.

What the fuck?

“My pretty doll, where did you grow up?” With anyone else, they would’ve looked at me funny and said the suburbs or Florida…not my doll.

He looked like he wanted to giggle from how obvious the answer was. “The circus.”

Of course he had.

Honestly, it answered a lot of questions.

“I bet you had an interesting childhood, pretty one.” Giving him a quick peck, I did my best not to think about the knives. “And the arts you learned when you were growing up are what you use to supplement your income from Leashes & Lace?”

He nodded, smiling and smoothing down his dress as he aimed for a very innocent expression that I was assuming was his attempt at making sure I wouldn’t worry.

It didn’t work.

“Yes, I do a lot of things, but the parties and things like that are fun.” His excited expression grew more genuine when I didn’t react as strongly as I had the first time. “People are fascinating and I like teaching kids what I learned.”

Wait.

“You teach?” This was why we needed less flirting and more conversation. “Kids?”

He nodded eagerly again, clasping his hands on his lap wonderfully ladylike. “Yes. A few afternoons a week. They’re group lessons through a local gymnastics academy. I’m a very professional teacher.”

He was fascinating…and I had a feeling he had a whole wardrobe and personality planned around what he thought a circus teacher looked like.

But just as quickly as he’d smiled, he hunched over and frowned, brows pulling together. “Fuck. I did it again, didn’t I?”

Doing my best not to laugh as I realized what he meant, I nodded. “There is nothing wrong with us taking the time to get to know one another, pretty one.”

When his face scrunched up like he’d been punished, I kissed his nose and pulled him close to me again. “That doesn’t mean we’ll just talk, but I want to make sure I make the best decisions for my doll that I can.”

Sighing, he rested his head on my shoulder, giving me a lovely pout that was meant to be kissed away. “Because you’re a good Owner.”

Ignoring the soft curse that followed and how sad he sounded when he called me a good Owner, I decided a reward and distraction were in order. Especially since this seemed to mean he wouldn’t be trying to move in with me when I wasn’t paying attention.
