Everything was a mess.
Jessie knocked lightly on the bathroom door. I flung it open, a sob ripping from my throat before I launched myself into his arms. He instantly wrapped his arms around me. “Fuck, baby, what’s—holy shit,” he whispered when his eyes locked on the tests on the bathroom counter.
“I’m pregnant,” I whimpered.
He cupped the back of my head and tightened his other arm around me. “Breathe. We’ll figure this out, baby girl. I just need you to breathe.”
“I don’t know if it’s yours or his,” I told him, my voice breaking.
“We can do a DNA test,” he assured me. “I frankly don’t give a fuck either way. I will love any baby of yours, regardless of if it’s tied to me biologically or not.”
“I want to know,” I told him.
He nodded. “Then we’ll find out as soon as you’re far enough along,” he promised me. He gently gripped my chin and tilted my head back. “In the meantime, you need to go see your therapist and inform her of your pregnancy. The medications you’re on may need to be changed.”
Fuck. Therapy. Goddamn medications.
We’d just changed my meds, and now, we’d have to change them again. Christ, I couldn’t catch a break. How much more shit could I take?
I reached up and swiped at my cheeks. “I’m sorry,” I apologized.
He gently gripped the side of my neck. “For?” Jessie asked me, confusion lacing his tone.
I swiped at my damp cheeks. “Getting pregnant.”
Jessie released a soft laugh. “Babe, it takes two to tango. Besides, it’s not the end of the world. I know you’ll look just as beautiful pregnant, and any baby that comes from you is a gift that I will cherish.”
I softly smiled up at him. “Why are you so perfect?” I asked him.
He flashed me a sexy grin. “I’m only perfect for you, baby.”
“Good, you’re doing great Mr. Reeds,” I heard the nurse saying as Jessie and I stepped into the room.
I gasped when my eyes landed on Lincoln. He was sitting up on the edge of the bed. He still looked pretty groggy, but his blue eyes were focused on me, and a beautiful, crooked smile was tilting his lips.
“Lincoln,” I breathed, tears welling in my eyes.
He was fucking awake!
I quickly moved toward him. He wrapped his arms around me, holding me tight to him. “You’re finally awake,” I mumbled into his neck, a shuddering breath leaving my lungs. I felt like I could finally breathe normally again.
He smoothed his hand over my hair. “Yeah, baby, I’m awake.” He pressed his lips to my temple. “As much as I want to sit here and hold you, I have to get up and walk around. Let Jessie take care of you, darlin’.”
I nodded, and though I didn’t want to let him go, I stood up, stepping backward until my back met Jessie’s chest. He wrapped his arms around my waist and pressed a kiss to my temple as we watched Lincoln push himself to his feet. He swayed for a moment, and the nurse quickly grabbed his shoulders to steady him.
I bristled, my jealous streak rising quickly and hotly in me. Jessie traced his fingers over my belly. “Easy, baby,” he soothed. “She’s just doing her job.” He knew how I could get. And I hated that she was getting to touch him like that instead of me.
Lincoln flashed me a sexy smirk over the nurse’s head. I grinned back at him, unable to help myself. “Knock, knock!” a lady called out. “I have the food that was ordered for Mr. Reeds.”
The smell of whatever they had made down in the kitchen reached my nose, and I gagged, instantly rushing into the bathroom. I leaned over the toilet, throwing up everything that I had eaten before Jessie and I came to the hospital for the night. “I’m here,” Jessie crooned, kneeling beside me. He reached up and pulled my hair back right before I threw up again.
I vaguely heard Lincoln telling the food lady to take the food back to the kitchen. Once I was done throwing up, I reached forward and flushed the toilet. Then, I plopped onto my ass on the floor, drawing in deep breaths as I tried to calm the churning in my stomach.
“You good, baby?” Jessie cupped the side of my neck and brushed his thumb over my jaw, concern washing through his eyes. Guess my nausea had finally turned into vomit. Fucking sucked.
“I just need a minute,” I grumbled. “A breath mint would be nice, too.”
Jessie pressed his lips to my forehead. “I’ll see what I can do.”
I looked up as Lincoln stepped into the bathroom. Jessie clapped him on the shoulder. “Good to see you awake, bro.” He nodded his head in my direction. “Stay with her for a few minutes.”
