This is it. The moment I’ve been waiting for. Benedict is here, and the night suddenly feels charged with endless possibilities.

He stalks across the tiled floor, making his way right to me. “Hi,” he says like there’s nobody else in the club tonight. “Are you allowed to join me in a private room?”

Oh my god. Is he really asking me this?

“Um, I can check.” I’ve got tables I should be focusing on, but as I head across the room to speak with Adele my nerves race with excitement. “Benedict’s asked me to join him in a private room,” I explain to her.

She glances over at Benedict, and nods. “Thirty minutes. That’s it. Transfer your tables to Honey. She’s looking for extra money.”

My mood deflates slightly at the idea of losing out on potential money, and it’s like Adele notices.

“I’m sure he’ll pay you great for joining him. Just remember, you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to do, and he knows this.”

I nod, biting my lower lip between my teeth. “Okay.” I head back across the club toward Benedict and to say I’m nervous is an understatement. Am I really doing this?

“Thirty minutes,” I tell him. I want to ask about money, but I keep my mouth shut.

“Follow me,” he says, leading me past the bouncer, Hector, and into a room at the end of the hallway.

As soon as the door clicks shut, he locks it.

I lick my lips nervously. “I’ve never really done this before,” I tell him, wondering what he’ll be asking of me.

“What are you doing here?”

My eyes widen. “What do you mean?”

He flips the bottom of my hair. “This? This wig? The makeup? What are you doing, Eva?”

I seriously want to cry knowing he’s caught me. However, anger overcomes me. “What business is it of yours, Father?” I snarl at him.

He grabs my wrist, marching me backwards until my back slams against the wall. He’s so close, his grip on my wrist tightening. “It’s my fucking business when you’re part of my congregation.”

“You don’t own me,” I spit out. “I need money, and this is the only way I know how to get it.”

He lets go of my wrist, stepping back to pace the floor. He’s angry, and I can’t really understand why. Does he really get this upset if his congregation isn’t living a righteous life?

And what of him?

He frequents the club regularly.

He steps back at me, cupping my face with one hand, the other racing up my hip. “Is this what you want? You want a man to have his way with you in this club?”

My mouth falls open. On the one hand I’m getting turned on by the way he’s staring at me. The way his hands feel against my body, but on the other, I’m livid he thinks he can treat me this way.

I push him off me, and step around him, making my way toward the door. “We’re through here.”

“No we’re not. This is the type of thing you want to do? Get on your knees for me, then.”

I spin around to face him, wondering if he’s serious. “On my knees for you? And then what? You want me to suck you off, Father?”

“Would you?” His thick voice hangs in the air.

I inch closer, slowly, drawing out each step intentionally. I lower myself to my knees, glancing up at him. “Is this what you want?”

His eyes widen, momentarily letting me see the truth. This is all a test, but he’s not letting me win so easily. “You have no idea what I want.”

“Fuck you,” I snarl out, and stand. I slap him across the face, angry at him for making me feel cheap and dirty.

Nobody’s ever made me feel so horrible in all my life. Not even Christopher, and I despise him more than anything.

“Eva,” Benedict breathes out. “Why are you here?”

Tears fall easily down my face, and I don’t bother swiping them away. “You wouldn’t understand.”

He steps closer, a red mark forming across his face where I slapped him. “Try me.”

“Maybe it’s better you don’t know.”

“I want to help you with everything,” he whispers, and I look up at his face.

“Working here is making me good money,” I say, still upset with him. “You told me you didn’t judge.”

He cups my face with both hands. “I’m not judging you. What if I have a way for us both to get what we want? And I could pay you. A lot.”

Chapter 8

Benedict

Eva stares at me for entirely too long as I hold my breath, waiting for her answer.

If I told her what this is really about she’d probably leave. She’d walk out the door and I’d never see her again. I can’t let her know who I really am.

I can’t let anyone know.

I’ve been at this seven long months, and I’m not going to throw away all of that time. Fuck that. I’m here for a bigger purpose. A higher power. But I’m at a stand still.
